Back in October last year Russell Brand made waves by urging people to incite revolution by not voting. He admitted in an interview with Jeremy Paxman that he had never voted, and never intended to, but went on to exhort people not to vote, claiming that democracy needed to be swept away. From Breitbart live blog:

Sarah Smith, BBC Scotland News presenter, Posted at 01:05 (Scot time)

Early reports suggest Glasgow may have voted 54% “Yes” to 46% “No”. However, “Yes” campaigners look a bit disappointed as they hoped the result would be more in their favour.

Think they’d have to do a whole lot better than that in Glasgow if they want to win the referendum.

So far, it looks like turnout is very high everywhere, but even higher in the No areas. I saw a report of one No stronghold (part of Renfrewshire) was hitting 98%!

The first results coming from Clackmannanshire. Reports of No campaigners hugging.

Other reports of the Western Isles shaping up as a No vote.

46-54% in Favor of NO in CLACKMANNANSHIRE, the first to report.

Relative to expectations, this favors No overall.

From STV:
The toss-up battleground of West Lothian is informally reported going to NO 53-47%.

In line with other results and indicators of Yes falling 3-4% short of what they would need to win.

I really dont see this regional split as anything of a problem, certainly not when it comes to the Highlands and Industrial lowlands/central belt. Such minor regional differences occur in every country. If Protestant Lowlanders and Catholic Lowlanders can get on(and they do for the most part) then anyone in Scotland can.

Bookies are raising their odds against a Yes vote to 33-1.

Orkney was expected to be the strongest No vote, and they came in 2 to 1 for No. Clackmannanshire was a toss-up, but went for No. Both have very small populations.

Nothing seems to be going the way of the independence movement, but only about 1% of the vote has been reported so far.

One interesting consideration if Scotland voted for Independence, is that the Shetlands might then vote for independence from Scotland...taking the oil with them.

The Brits could set them up with a status like the Isle of Man, and BP could handle all the work, while Shetlanders cash checks like lottery winners.

Western Isles (reported in Scottish language!)
voted NO 53-47

This was an area that would have likely gone Yes, if Yes was to win.

Inverclyde, a battleground area
Votes NO almost 50-50

an 86 vote margin out of over 50,000 cast

Yes would have needed an expected 55-45 win there.
