It’s a cult - controlling all input that a follower is allowed to have in his/her life and subjecting the body to subversive physical conditions similar to what is used for interrogation tactics (sleep and food cycles, hypnotizing music, etc).
A while back there was video of a Muslim woman in Israel waiting for her son to be done with the free care he was given in a Jewish hospital. She explained that human life on earth basically means nothing to them. They expect to die, they want to die for Allah. There is no concept of the sanctity of human life.
Makes me think about the difference between that and Christianity. Christians are to be LIVING sacrifices - serving the world through their life, to illustrate and be a conduit for the love of the God who not only said, “You shall not murder” but who also lived and died to pay the just punishment for human sin. God DOES care about human lives in the here and now. Death DOES matter to Him. The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, but the God of the Bible comes that we might have abundant life - complete with all the fruit of real life (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control...)
I think that disbelief in the true sanctity of human life is probably what connects leftists to Islam in spite of their differences over feminism, homosexuality, abortion, etc. When people become animals in their beliefs, they will very soon thereafter become animals in their behaviors too.

Well said indeed. The Fall reduced us to animal nature without spiritual life. Christ redeems us from the Fall by regeneration of our spirit through the Holy Spirit, and so restores us to the spiritual humanity for which we were designed, in which divine love is the guiding principle. It is that love which gives value to the life and well being of others, and so inclines us toward civilized and lawful behavior, the goodness flowing from within, and not imposed on us by a complex exoskeleton of behavioral limits, the law written, not on tablets of stone, but on our heart.
