Michigan Teachers and Allies for Change (M-TAC), which MLive described as “a grassroots organization started by Ann Arbor Public Schools teachers and parents,” was in the news last week for a rally in Ann Arbor seeking more money for public schools.

According to MLive, the group is "non-partisan and is not affiliated with a union."

The featured politicians on the stage at the rally were all Democrats: Lisa Brown, who is running for Lt. Governor, State Rep. Jeff Irwin, D-Ann Arbor, State Sen. Rebekah Warren, D-Ann Arbor, State Rep. Gretchen Driskell, D-Saline; and State Rep. Adam Zemke, D-Ann Arbor.

MLive also reported that M-TAC would be canvassing for Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Mark Schauer and Brown as well as Democratic candidates for the Michigan House of Representatives in swing districts in Monroe, Canton, West Bloomfield, Tecumseh and the Downriver area.

In a previous story on MLive, Ann Arbor teacher and M-TAC founder Quinn Strassel said, "We are canvassing for Democrats, but eventually we want to hold both Democrats and Republicans accountable for public education. Ultimately we want to have a say in policy."

The very fact that they felt compelled to say “and not associated with a union”, means that they are.
