That is not new. At all times men coming to the defense of a woman risked their life and limb doing so. The difference is that normally, that was the risk men took as a component of their honor, and now they don't.
what if the woman doesnt even appreciate a man coming to her defense?
If the danger was real, e.g. robbery or rape, then she will appreciate, and besides, the reward for chivalry is honor, not appreciation from women.
many young women resent even having doors opened for them
Men should teach women. That is a part of chivalry too. If women are growing up rude that is because someone was supposed to teach her manners and did not.
You would let the door slam in the face of someone’s 80-year-old mom, for instance?
I usually do the “push the door out of the way” motion for most people, which reduces needless inconvenience but requires other people to pay some attention to their surroundings. Anyone who has their nose in a phone the whole time deserves to get hit in the face by the door; if you hold the door open for that person, you absolutely are an enabler and should feel ashamed.
Sounds like you have some issues that really need working through. I hope things get better.
Keep in mind the next time you let a door slam in a woman's face that it could be a conservative woman who appreciates the chivalry. Well, I guess it could, depending on the concentration of conservatives where you live.
I'm a Southerner, born and raised...men here tend to be gentlemen who still hold doors. I've never seen a single one bulling his way through a store, using his cart to knock others out of the way. I'm thankful for Southern gentlemen...especially the one I married.
It's true, I burn with the shame of extending a once-common courtesy - sometimes even to those who might not really deserve it.
Bravo!!!!
We all, women and men, need to hang on to courtesy, nobility, and thankfulness so that we can renew Western civilization by our everyday character and behavior.
God made man. Sam Colt made them equal.
“Today I listened to two young women at a nearby restaurant table engage in loud male bashing.”
What kind of stuff were they saying?
Were they supermodels?
