Local protesters plan trip to Ferguson Sat.: Plans to aid protesters who've been hit w/tear gas

DES MOINES, Iowa —Police and protesters have clashed for more than a week in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri. Local filmmaker Justin Norman captured dozens of images and video of the conflict to document the tense situation.

Norman said it didn’t take long to witness a physical dispute on a street corner.

“Before a half-hour of being there, I saw this woman forced to the ground, handcuffed and put in the back of a police car, arrested for standing and holding a sign,” Norman said.

The distance between Des Moines and Ferguson is about 340 miles, but Norman said he felt a world away from home.

“The police are all outfitted like they’re about to invade Afghanistan,” Norman said.

Michael Brown, 18, was fatally shot and sparked an intense debate. Police said the unarmed teen charged Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson in an attempt to grab the officer’s gun. Others believe Brown had his hands up and offered to surrender.

“Enough is enough,” said Calvetta Berry, founder of Mothers Against Violence. “There was no reason for that young man to get killed.”

Berry is organizing a trip to the Missouri suburb for Saturday morning. She said she hopes their group of about a dozen will help aid protesters who have been hit with smoke bombs and tear gas.

“We just want to be there and with our bodies and show support for the people of Ferguson,” Berry said.

Mothers Against Violence has a few more spots open for those interested in taking the trip to Ferguson. They plan to drive down and protest all day and night Saturday, and return to Des Moines on Sunday.

Yeah tx, the National Guard would be useless in a week long “mob” situation. The cops did such an efficient professional job.

No wonder these people can't get jobs.

"What do you do on your last job?"

"Well, I was a professional protestor."

Cool. I’m buying a blue one today.

I had a hand in the empty chair campaign, too.

What I’m bored with, dude, is the liberal recipe over and over. Basically, find a situation, twist it to fit your agenda, fubar it, make it a flashpoint, add fuel to the fire, fan the flames, blame it on [fill in the blank, but definitely a lib enemy] and ply it endlessly on any news source you watch and listen to. Once you see the pattern, it is boring to keep repeating it. BTW, dude, I don’t gawk. I’m too damn busy for that. But I do like to keep up with the news and this story is on every channel and radio station, etc. and it’s just a wash, rinse, repeat of the the lib tactics and that’s what bores me.

They weren’t allowed to do their job. In a sane world, looters would be shot on sight.

You don’t call out the National Guard for every mob situation.

You are very evasive. This was no mob situation. We call these riots and looters...It's why the National Guard was created. We don't want cops being soldiers.

Cops are showing up with combat style swat teams, military war vehicles, drones, dress in camouflage, combat boots, army helmets etc., to serve simple warrants....To respond to routine calls. This is no secret. This is being seen all over the country TX.

Are you in some isolated place? How could you not know all this?

Enough. Cops are not the military, we don't want them to even look like the army. They need to get back into their police uniforms and be cops. We already have a National Guard.

If the local cops can't handle a situation, get the National Guard out there. This is not complex.

You don't get to change the name from riot to mob, just to fit in your support of militarization of law enforcement.

No sale.

Yes the Guard is trained for major domestic upsets but you are forgetting that there are “Domestic Political Considerations” that have to be taken into account. The “Domestic Political Considerations” are what has caused this clusterf*ck to last for a week & a half.

That has nothing to do law enforcement changing into para-military organizations.

Bringing in the National Guard when the local cops can’t handle a situation is not complex...

Riot control and SWAT teams should fall under the Sheriff’s Dept. PERIOD!

Local cops should call the Sheriff if they need a SWAT team or have a riot starting. Let’s have an elected official be in charge of the heavy weapons division for police work. Cities have no need to bust doors to make a drug arrest or serve a warrant. Search warrants should be given to the homeowner when the cop knocks on the door.

“...“The police are all outfitted like they’re about to invade Afghanistan,” Norman said. ...”

Typical Lib.

And like Norman would actually KNOW what not only IS “Afghanistan” about...let alone watch & report photos of Peaceful Families of Afghans being Slaughtered by Terrorists OUTSIDE of their own Country!!

WHY AREN’T “PHOTOS” 1st Page published by libs of 300 Young Girls Kidnapped into Slavery in Africa??

Give THEM “ Amnestsy “ Obama— to “...not slit up their families..” or “ give Cubanian-Rights”!!!

D.A. “ Republicans are responsible for Obama being in “
