Dole was running himself. The first I ever heard of Bush was an NPR report calling him a “moderate conservative.” He won Iowa, and was very well networked there.
Well I guess the better question would be, who, that is in power now, endorsed someone other than Reagan?
But it came down to Bush and Reagan….and Im wondering if Dole backed Bush at that point.
