Israel is facing a very difficult strategic problem. If Hamas remains a definable political entity and retains control of Gaza, Israel will be forced to fight this same battle in the not too distant future. If Hamas is destroyed, a new possibly more radical group may replace them with links to the numerous jihadist groups. The Palestinians will remain pawns for the different factions. Israel will never know peace as long as nearly two million hostile Palestinians are cramped into the Gaza strip adjacent to its borders. Actually Israel has shown unusual restraint over the past sixty five years which they are coming to regret. When Caesar took Gaul, he did not establish refugee area, negotiate or tolerate “multiculturalism”. Gaul was thoroughly Romanized within a generation. When Rome fell, it was not due to an internal revolt from Britain, Gaul or Spain.

Israel can’t go back into the past and undo some of their massive generosity toward these people. What can Israel do going forward?
