My cable bill jumped a bunch this month. When I asked why, several promotions had expired etc etc etc.
Anyway, the service rep at Time Warner gave me a better price on a package deal that includes cable TV, internet and phone service.
A question I have is about continuity of their phone service if the cable/power goes out. It does happen sporatically here.
If you are worried about having a phone, when no electricity is available, a POTS (plain old telephone service) fits the bill.
The phone actually receives power to operate via the local telephone company.
It will always be on.

I have Time Warner phone service, but rarely use it. I also have Verizon cell phone service so that when the power does go out here, I can still use the cell phone if necessary.
Time Warner’s phone does go down during power failures. I switched to ATT Uverse, their phone is battery backed up.
Only twice since mid-2007 for us when we started using the phone service. You have the ability to configure a call forwarding option for occasions when the internet is down either at your location or for a larger area. On both occasions the internet was down, I realized that was the case because both home and office line were ringing to my cellphone.
We use the phone options for both our home and business.
My conplaints are that their contractor missed our move date when we moved 4 years ago and that there are limited call blocking options.
I have a APC SMT-750 a 750mA*h UPS (uninterruptible power supply) attached to the Cable Modem/VIOP and my wireless router and NAS. It is enough power to keep it operating 24/7 for a week if necessary.
It prevents the phones and internet from going away in the event of a power loss, but you must have a hard wired phone somewhere in the house in order to make it work. It doesn’t do you any good to have cordless phone with no way to keep it charged, and charging batteries from a battery powered device is not a good plan.

I’m considering dumping land-line phone for cellular. They also stay up when the power drops, at least in my area. It might be another option if you already have a cell phone with good cell signal at home -and- if TW will run/turn-on a cable just for internet.
My Time Warner bill is nuts. Tried to dump the phone service. They said it would save me $1.00 per month. They also give you fits about putting in your own cable modem. Always saying the ANY brand, ever the one they install, is incompatible. I am looking for TWC alternatives in southeast Texas.
We have Time Warner cable, tv and phone. When the cable goes down there is nothing until the cable comes back up. We just went through this a couple of weeks ago, however that being said we have rarely lost cable where we live. We always have our cell phones to use.Good Luck and God Bless.
It's been far more consistent for Internet than Comcast.
We were paying $73/month with Comcast and only had basic cable with the same speed (and I already owned the cable modem).
I guess the extra money went to subsidize MSNBC.
Hope to never go back to Comcast.

Time Warner service goes out when power goes out. Their internet service is weak even in the best of times, it doesn’t compare to AT&T’s.
My cell works when the power goes out. For 20 hours standby, anyway. I don’t think it is worth 25 to 50 a month to have a land line that I never use. I recently got rid of cable tv and just have enhanced internet and netflix. I watch what I want, when I want. There are loads of tv options on Netflix streaming, and you can get the new movies when they come out on dvd.
It’s probably like my Comcast triple play. If the power goes out there is a battery in the router that keeps service on for a few hours.
If the internet/cable goes out you are down.
We haven’t had a bad experience with ours. Costs jumped a few months ago for the same reasons yours did. ~$130 a month for HD and reg TV, 16 - 40 mbps internet, and 2 line phone with message and other stuff.
Cutting the HD would save $10 but mrs p6 enjoys that. I like watching live harness racing from our local track, pncn state public TV that features local and state government as well as tours of state businesses, points of interest like Gettysburg, and live coverage of events like the state farm show in January. Going to over the air TV doesn’t carry any of that and even ifit can be found on the net it isn’t the same. Plus we live nect to a big hill that blocks most of the OTA TV.
The phone has been great though. We both use cheap pay as you go cell phones as well.
AT&T’s land line phones used to be battery backed up. In some areas not anymore. Had an ice storm last winter and the power was out for 3 days. Only cell phone worked. When the power came back on, AT&T DSL worked but the land line was still dead for days. Land lines in a large area was out. Seems like the reverse should have happened. These are phone lines that stayed on during and after Hurricane Hugo.
Cancel your cable and phone, keep the internet, and buy a Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or Apple TV and join the streaming revolution.

I need FS1, NBCS, and ESPN for Nascar, Indycar, and Formula 1.
I’ve had the TW cable, Internet, phone service for years. I love it. A standby, charged cell phone will cover you in case of power outages. The last time I called, they gave me a free DVR which I am really enjoying.
Digital service on the phone and when the power goes out...it is dead too.
