I certainly don’t admire Putin, nor am I defending him, which I stated before.

I simply want to know why the media is being inconsistent between this incident and Islamic terrorist attacks.

Put is probably behind this, but why won’t the media, in the wake of terrorist attacks that clearly have the hallmarks of Islamic terrorism, admit as much???

That’s my only point here. No defense of Putin and certainly no admiration.

There is likely little chance we will ever find out who fired the missile, so may as well try to score some political points against a meanyhead who made fun of me. Also can now claim that not all terrorists are muslim - BO

Perhaps Putin’s Fault, is the new Post Modern version of Bush’s Fault.

It is still premature to blame the most obvious source
In fact to target this aircraft required knowledge and control over Ukraine’s entire ATC system

With rumors flying it will take among time for facts to be determined, if an honest revelation is ever made, since it is so convenient for the US and the West to blame Putin

Today it is being reported in the Daily Mail (UK semi tabloid but often publishes sources and details well before they appear in US MEdia) that Ukrainian military assumed control of the country’s ATC and directed the Malay airliner on a flight path to the north over enemy territory and at an altitude 2K ft below what the pilot requested - while an IL-76 cargo plane was simultaneously being sent on the southward route usually used by passenger airliners

Did the Ukrainian military use the ATC system to set up the airliner as a decoy so they could get a heavy in to resupply their blocked troops to the southeast? It is a plausible scenario IF there was in fact an IL-76 flying at 33k ft in southeast Ukraine at the same time

Someone knows the truth but will we ever find out, given the rush by both sides to secure the black boxes and aletr or destroy evidence, especially if it is inconvenient for the West to find that our “allies” participated in such a reckless act

Even though many details are yet to be determined, we know enough to recognize that the Russians are at fault in the downing of the airliner and are engaging in acts of war against Ukraine. Even your alternative theory implicates the Russians as the shooter.

Getting the facts and details right matters, but what matters even more is that Putin and Russia be made to pay hard and as soon as possible for their role in downing the airliner. A lack of a forceful and determined response by the US and Europe will make the world a more dangerous place by encouraging the world's bad guys and incentivizing aggression.

Is it possible or possibly fair to conjecture that maybe in the "fog of war" the Russians did what they did without Putin's personal knowledge of this attack o the airliner?

I mean you can impute blame for the deaths on Putin because of his encroachment on the Ukraine, but that seems different from a direct order from Putin to shoot the airliner down.

Putin isn't stupid, I don't think. I really don't see how Putin would see this as helping him in what he's trying to do while trying to keep international economic sanctions minimal.

Shooting down the airliner was a tragic accident, likely without Putin's specific approval, but an accurate accounting puts the ultimate blame on Russia and Putin.

The missile, launcher, and even the crew were almost certainly all Russian, as was the decision to shoot at what was thought to be a Ukrainian transport. That a Russian launcher and crew were in eastern Ukraine and shooting at what they though was a Ukrainian aircraft proves that Russia has committed an act of war by sending agents and special forces to invade Ukraine.

Apparently, Putin though intends to simply blame Ukraine, confident that his forces have collected and suppressed enough forensic evidence to make a conclusive case against Russia impossible. In addition, Russia will put economic pressure on Europe, confident that Obama will fail to rally US allies to effective action.
