Never been there but I’ve read it was built with indentured servants and slave labor from Asia. It’s also know for sex trafficking for the wealthy. Sounds like an exotically creepy place.
It's my understanding that there are only about 300K *citizens* of the UAE while there are something like 5 or 6 million residents.Yes,there are many Filipinos who work there,often in hotels and restaurants.And there are many,many *very* dark skinned (but not African) people you see there...mainly on construction crews and road building projects.I believe that they're mainly from Pakistan and Bangladesh and I've read more than once that they're not very well treated.However,I got talking to a shuttle van driver from Pakistan who said that Dubai was paradise for him compared to what was available at home.He said that he was supporting several relatives still living in his small village.
Sex trafficking? I think I see wealthy Saudis doing that.God knows that half the Ferraris and Bugatti Veyrons I saw last March in the valet parking area of the Mall of Dubai had Saudi plates on them.
