I really hate July 4th celebrations nowadays. They break my heart, and I don’t participate.
The firework “celebrations” are the worst.
To me, July 4 is the most depressing day of the year now.
The 4th has become kind of depressing in the past few years. Years ago in the first year or two of the wun, the atmosphere wasn’t very festive and seems mostly flat.
I hope to be left alone and try to get some home stuff done.
A few days ago, Eva Braun (my private nickname for the spouse of the fascist next door) came over being nice and neighborly and was inviting my wife to some 4th celebration at whatever liberal church she goes to. I chuckled a little when I heard the bit about it being very patriotic.
I can imagine there would be 0 worship non stop. We aren’t going. The neighbors have been nothing but untrustworthy and two faced for years. They’ve alienated most of the neighborhood.
Same here. To me, it is the saddest day of the year. We used to watch the musical 1776 as a family tradition every year as our kids grew up. I haven't been able to look at it since 2007.
I still celebrate the gift the Founders gave us and the long run of freedom we have. I am depressed enough the rest of the year, so I celebrate the founding gift and God’s glory on the 4th. But yes, if you consider our current race toward totalitarian socialism, it is very depressing. I too grieve we could not keep the Republic, as Ben Franklin warned us.
