Sterling is well and truly finished after disastrous CNN interview
The Globe and Mail ^ | May 13, 2014 | Cathal Kelly

Presumably, when the team of crisis public relations experts sat down to prep Clippers owner Donald Sterling, they were able to hammer one paragraph into his head.

“I’m not a racist. I made a terrible, terrible mistake. I’m here with you today to apologize, and to ask for forgiveness,” Sterling begins, in what will quickly spin out into the most tone-deaf apology in TV history.

That was good. What followed was the antimatter of good. If the ideas Sterling vocalized to CNN’s Anderson Cooper were to come into contact with goodness, the universe would collapse in on itself.

Throughout, it was a cringing and maudlin display. Sterling kicks it off with a transparently phony story about his granddaughter being denied sweets at school because “we don’t give candy to racists.”

He’s 80 yrs old and worth a billion, what does he have to lose? Sounds like he wants to take Magic down with him.

Pray America wakes up

I’m just beginning to really like him —

Bring on some more interviews

I get that impression too. It’s as if he’s not all there up in the head. He’s old and not expressing himself properly.

IN a way, I wish he would be so diagnosed with dementia or other related condition, because then, this inquisition could make the NBA look like they are punishing an old man who is not in full control of himself.

>>The man sounds like he is suffering from dementia<<

He sounds like Al Campanis. The media lynched him too, conveniently forgetting Campanis was the one who gave JACKIE ROBINSON his chance!

The NBA constitution is very specific about sanctions for embarrassing statements, and they don't include losing your team.

Silver applied sanctions for actions, and words are not actions. The appropriate sanction was a fine for one million dollars, and a ban of however long they wanted.

Sterling is shopping for a law firm, and there are plenty of them out there that would kill for this case. Lots of damages are going to be extracted from the league.

This whole episode is not over by a long shot.

Shelly Sterling has said publicly that she wants to keep her share of the Clippers, and said the NBA is sexist if they want to remove her share of ownership.

The team is actually owned by a family trust which the Sterling family controls. Shelly, Donald, and their children are in joint control of the trust which owns the team, if I recall correctly. Sorting all of this out, legally, could keep lots of lawyers busy for a long time.

The easy part was suspending Sterling from the NBA, and making it so that he’s not the public face of ownership any more. But the legal actions, behind the scenes, could get very messy. Stay tuned.

Then there is no point in running off his mouth. The media wants him to be a monster. If he says 999 good things and one bad thing, the bad thing will be the headline.

Was he mistaken when he criticized Magic Johnson’s behavior? Is MJ the new Pope or something?

Donald Sterling would shrivel up and die if couldn’t run off his mouth. He’s having the time of his life with this. All eyes are on him.

In the USA today, if you are not COMPLETELY for multiculturalism, then apparently you are not entitled to make a living:

You can be a BILLIONAIRE, and get all manner of racial awards from the urban Grievance Elite and the instant you say something they don’t like, then you are finished.

Land of the FREE?

I think we should stop singing that.

In a way, this sordid episode is actually GOOD because it makes clear the twisted point we’ve come to.

Levin said, tonight, that law firms were turning him down because they were afraid of losing clients.

That article is typical of the overdone analysis of everything anyone says these days.

I read it and the criticisms of Sterling are ridiculous. He was self pitying and he dared criticize Magic Johnson. Who cares?

He should just buy CNN and then fire Cooper. That would make my day.

He's going to top-tier firms with lots of PC clients. They're turning him down to not lose those clients. There are way more law firms than clients, and it's a slam-dunk case. The NBA constitution is clear. There are plenty of law firms out there. I'm sure there are plenty of them trying desperately to contact him.

Lawyers are a dime a dozen.

He’s groveling on nitwit networks, meanwhile his bimbo is just skating around with her little face shield on.
