We have thought of Tennessee but not sure. No to California, even though we would both love to go back. The Carolinas look interesting. Cannot go somewhere too hot, though. So hard to plan a big move but, this winter has certainly encouraged us.
Has to be gun-friendly, have a VA hospital within a reasonable distance or other good medical facilities, decent weather and affordable. lol Not asking for much, are we?

You want Arizona. Don’t let naysayers tell you otherwise. It’s the most retirement-friendly state for conservatives I know of.

I love KY but the income + sales taxes here are far worse than TN’s high sales tax.

Yes, but it sure makes it easier to take. I lived back east. I’d rather put up with California politics than dodge tornados and lightning bolts, humidity and no sunshine. The sky is supposed to be blue even if a state is supposed to be red.

We have been thinking of AZ, as long as we move to a part that doesn’t get too hot.

We own some property in Hawaiian Paradise Park and planned on building on it and retiring there. We did all the calculations and would have saved quite a bit of money moving from California to Hawaii.
Unfortunately family stuff happens and that window closed.
