Our all-Mopar family must have been lucky, because the ballast resistors did not cause us any particular grief that I can recall. Even if they had, we probably would have rationalized it as another one of those Chrysler Corporation idiosyncrasies… like left-handed lug nuts, clocks that died early and factory-installed, no-extra-charge wind noise. All-in-all, Mopars had their own personalities, and they seemed to polarize people more than the other makes. In my neck o' the woods, being a Dodge or Plymouth "person" would put a young gearhead into a small, dedicated - and occasionally fiercely defensive -group.

Now that I'm past giving a rat's buttocks about what I drive as long as it gets me there (currently Subaru, TBP), I can now appreciate and enjoy the GM and FoMoCo survivors of those days. But back then? If it wasn't Mopar, it wasn't "one of ours." Mom and dad would have blanched at a purple one, but they'd have enthusiastically put a black/black GTX in the garage as the family car… if there hadn't already been a '70 Charger sitting there.

I was exact opposite, interesting

My dad worked at Ford and I drove a Camaro and a couple Firebirds... was really only into GM cars at the time

Yet these days I feel I missed out on something by not having gotten into Mopars... Chrysler cars were just INTERESTING, for all the quirks I am attracted to the unique looks, creative engineering, and slightly outrageous demeanor.

I will probably have a late 60s Satellite or something like that soon...
