Who won the cold war?
They let us THINK we won.
But don’t be fooled. Kruschev accomplished EXACTLY what he said he was gonna do.
Not Freepers but over 50% of the voters. (twice!)
We shouldn't let ourselves be distracted by Europe's new Cold War against Russia. Since the collapse of the old Soviet Union, Russia has withered to a fraction of its old strength while NATO has expanded eastward to Russia's doorstep. What was once a mutual defense treaty against Soviet invasion has been expanded into a guarantee of American military cover for NATO's encirclement and economic domination of Russia. We are being played to Brussels' advantaged, and further bankrupted in the process.
George Washington's warning now rings with truth.
The Cold War was fought against Communist plans to take over the world.
We won. Communism disappeared. There is nothing whatsoever Communist about today’s Russia. Little objectively Communist in China except rhetoric. North Korea has a lot more in common with ancient Korean precedents than with classical Russian or Chinese Communism. Communism is dying in Vietnam. Cuba is perhaps the last bastion of something like Communism.
However, the country of Russia and its national interests did not magically vanish because it lost the Cold War.
Just like Germany did not magically vanish because it lost WWI. WWII was fought on issues growing out of the aftermath of WWI. The mishandling of that aftermath by the victors, for the most part.
But saying we didn’t really win the Cold War because Russia is resurgent today is like saying the Allies didn’t win WWI because Germany was resurgent in the 30s.
