Karl Rove Pushes Establishment Republicans in California

Karl Rove was in Sacramento recently and was speaking to the community's business leaders. The event was a $1000 a plate "Leadership Trust" dinner held by the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Rove talked about the upcoming governor's race in California and gave his two cents on the Republican candidates. As to be expected, he suggested that Republican put their support behind the establishment candidate and not the Tea Party favorite. Rove said, "that if the Republicans have to pick someone to lose to Jerry Brown, they'd be stupid to not to pick" Neel Kashkari, who is the establishment choice over Tea Party favorite Tim Donnelly.

Karl Rove's mantra is that Republicans should pick someone who won't damage the party's future with Latinos. He stresses that Donnelly will do that as he founded the California chapter of the Minutemen to monitor the border with Mexico and report on illegal immigration. I always find it striking that establishment Republicans are writhing in agony over the Latino vote. The fact is that Latinos have always voted Democrat, but some Republicans (Reagan and George W. Bush) did get a sizable percentage of their vote. Yet studies have shown that banging the amnesty drum will not result in more votes for Republicans. In fact, Latino support dropped after Reagan signed an amnesty bill in 1986. The truth is that Republicans will never win a majority of support from Latinos (or other minorities) until they're willing to go to war and expose the Democrat Party and other groups, such as the NAACP, as the racially polarizing groups that they are and that they peddle in lies. But I digress.

However as much as Karl Rove infuriates me by always promoting the establishment Republicans, I do have to agree with him on one point. We should strive to support the best possible candidate that will win an election. Just because somebody aligns themselves with the Tea Party or some other conservative group does not automatically mean that they're capable of winning elections. I honestly hate voting for the lesser of two evils, but there are times when it has to be done. Still, that does not mean that we abdicate any attempts to pressure our elected officials to follow conservative principles. We do have to keep their feet to the fire.

The thing that irritates me the most with Karl Rove and others of his ilk is that if their particular candidate does not win the primary, they pick up their toys, go home, and sulk. They withhold money from the campaign of the conservative running for office and do nothing to help him win the election. Democrats are very good at marshalling behind their candidate once the primaries are over, yet those in the Republican Party who talk about how we conservatives need to swallow our disappointment if the anti-establishment candidate lost in the primary and get behind their choice do not do the same when the reverse happens. Once the primary is over, we should band together and focus our energy on defeating liberals. Yet, establishment politicians and their consultants do nothing of the sort. They're wiling to drag down their own party in defeat just so they'll still have a seat at the political table in Washington and get invited to all the right parties and appear on shows. I guess if more of us could afford $1000 a plate dinners, I guess they would listen to us more.

The issue this year is not immigration. It is opposition affirmative action. Republicans need to run on this mainstream popular position. Tim Donnelly is the best candidate to run a strong campaign.

The GOP should look at ways to get replace Jeff Denham and get more Rohrabacher’s elected.

“Today, we have seen the power of rallying together to make a better California for all of us, regardless of race.

The Asian Exclusion Act

I have been embarrassed and infuriated by our very own state governments attempt at state sponsored racism with SCA 5, – the Asian exclusion act.”
