Is ObamaCare a Success?

With the March 31st deadline now passed for ObamaCare, it seems that the Obama administration is in full gloat mode. They say that 7 million people have signed up for ObamaCare and that despite a rocky start, the program is a success. President Obama gave a speech in the Rose Garden today, saying, "The law is doing what it's supposed to do. It's working." So is President Obama correct in that ObamaCare is a success?

The answer depends upon your viewpoint. If you're Obama or one of his progressive liberal cronies, then ObamaCare is a success. The Affordable Care Act has disrupted the marketplace, made more people dependent upon the government, and increased government control over some of the most important facets of our life. It's a liberal's wet dream come true, especially with the gigantic price tag associated with the program as liberals love bloated, expensive government.

If you're a rational human being, then you're dismayed by the effects of ObamaCare and know that it is anything but a success. While the White House is running victory laps, the real truth still lies hidden. We're told that just over 7 million people signed up, but the government won't give us the age breakdown, how many actually paid, and how many of those people were ones who had their health insurance cancelled because of the ACA. In fact, the 7 million enrollees used as a measuring stick for success is really just a number pulled out of thin air by the administration. Do you actually think 7 million people paying into the system (if they're not getting subsidies) will somehow magically offset the costs of over 300 million Americans? Of course not.

What we do know is that the administration will continue to stonewall over the actual numbers. Charles Krauthammer has written that the numbers are phony. He writes, "This is a phony number, and it’s wonderfully precise. These guys go six months without any idea what the numbers are, and all of a sudden, it’s to a decimal point. But of course it’s meaningless because…we don’t know how many of them have paid…and how many were previously uninsured."

Krauthammer is right. Millions have lost their health insurance. Many more have seen their premiums skyrocket. It's also being reported that the RAND Corporation has compiled a study that shows the true numbers behind the enrollee claims. They've found that only 53 percent of Americans who previously did not have health insurance have actually paid for their new plans. In fact, the RAND Corporation's study shows that only roughly 858,000 Americans who did not have insurance beforehand have gotten it since ObamaCare took affect. They suggest that only 23 percent of enrollees had no insurance before this entire debacle began. Yet we're told that ObamaCare will provide insurance to everybody. Looks like Obama has another 47 million Americans to go. All that chaos and disruption for having less than a million people covered as prices spiral drastically upwards for everyone.

Be prepared for rosy reports by the mainstream media as they tout ObamaCare as an amazing success. This line of reporting will continue through the upcoming midterm elections as the media will do anything in their power to bolster the election chances of Democrats. Obama was in full attack mode today, saying that those who stood against him want to deny health insurance to people. The truth is the exact opposite. Enacting tort reform to stop insane lawsuits and allowing people to buy insurance across state lines would drastically lower the cost of medicine. The only drawback to that is that it allows people to be free of government entanglement and control. Obama and his allies won't stand for that.

No Virginia, Obamacare is not an overnight success. Things didn’t change because Obama did a victory dance.

Depends - how were the goals defined?

Now, what were the TRUE goals?

If by “success” you mean that the Republicans take over the Senate, I’ll let you know in November.

Is Obamacare a success?

It may sound a bit Clintonian, but it depends on what the meaning of "success" is. If, by "success" you mean "abysmal, epic failure," then, yes, Obamacare is a great success.

Of course, it’s a huge success. The media said it is.

Obama told me yesterday, from the Rose Garden, that it was a settled success, and I should stop trying to repeal it or undermine it.

RINO Centeral Committee = response

Why are you asking if Obamacare is a success? Didn’t you get the memo about all of this no longer being debatable?

Yes. 0bamacare has successfully destroyed the doctor-patient relationship, the private medical care insurance industry, and the medical care market. It has successfully further rendered the citizen subservient to the Total State. It has successfully imposed huge unfunded costs on the budgets of the several states. It has successfully increased the US national debt.

Truly amazing what an inexperienced, failed community organizer can do when given real power ...

0bama specifically said four (really five) things early on that I remember word for word:

1. All change comes from me.
2. I am the President of the United States.
a. No one should make more than me.
b. I have the best healthcare in the world.
3. You write that down. What I said is true now. (He instructed the reporter who asked him about whether some outlandish statement he’d just made was true.)
4. The United States may fail, but my girls will be just fine.
