Correct, when the rich man asked Jesus how he could get into heaven, Jesus said “sell everything you have, give it to the poor and follow me”.

Correct again. And Jesus was addressing THAT man in particular because he knew the man’s heart was attached to his wealth and would take priority in his walk. God’s got to be first.
