1979 No draft. 1980, MEN MUST REGISTER for Selective Service, which is still true today, at age 18 and the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are required to also, but ignore that. There are PENALTIES if you lived here during the 18-26 age group and didn’t register then. Even if you are 40 or 50 NOW.
IIRC, one of those penalties is you can't work for the federal government...
If you turned 18 in
78 or 79 you never had to register for the draft. We came after Ford ended the draft and registration. When Carter restated registration it began with people as the turned 18. There was no requirement for us to register.
