There are many more warnings that Satan will cause people to fall into an "apostasy", which I contend is exactly what we're witnessing with the pre-trib, grace perversion doctrines cropping up. Many are abandoning a life of righteousness for the idea that simply saying you believe, exempts one from repenting of their previous sins or adherence to the commandments of the Almighty.

1. 1 John 4:1-3 seems to be straightforward in terms of affirming or denying that the Messiah has come in the person of Yeshua of Nazareth, son of Miriam, son of God. I don't see a problem with using English translations of the Greek manuscripts from this regard.

   Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

2. Others would claim to be Messiah, and many would follow them. I don't find it credible to think that the Apostles could be deceived in this regard and that the warning was prophetically for them. I see both Bar Kochba, and Mohammed as examples of this, but of course I'm not a preterist. And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying , I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

3. I take it you mean 2 Thess: 2:3 "falling away" ie., apostasy which is dovetails nicely with Jude1-4

   Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

   Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

   I don't know that the pre-trib, grace perversion doctrines necessarily fit this category, but if so, were both Martin Luther and John Calvin examples of this ?

   2 Peter 2 has this, which is why it is so important to cleave to the faith once delivered to the saints.

   But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
