51st State? The Philippines?

Well, if it happens I might consider moving there. Red State, I’d predict.

The public safety net would immediately collapse.

Anyone who's been there knows what I'm talking about.

Filipinos are fed up with political dynasties, incompetence, corruption and all that kind of stuff.

Would not be such a good switch for them then. On the other hand we will need something to replace California after it is given to Mexico.

I can already hear the cries of the left: American imperialism!!

I support it. And while we’re at it, why not cut to the chase with Puerto Rico and annex them as well?

Barack Hussein Obama will OWN the Philippines - IRS forms, everyone in the Philippines on Obamacare, oh, the glory of it all - lucky Filipinos, all citizens of the US - fantastic - wonderful news - glory, hallelujah!

2 Senators and 128 House Members - I don’t think so.

2 more Democrat senators and a bonanza of welfare ready people is quite sufficient for Washington to want to add the Phillipines as a 51st province.

I have great respect and appreciation for the people, and many of the cultures of the people of the Philippines. I have hopes and prayers that the Gospel of Jesus Christ will flood into the country and people will be saved.

However, the southern islands and southern parts of the large islands are controlled by Muslim paramilitary armies. What could we do to protect American citizens in those cases? We can't send in armed forces because of the doctrine of posse comitatus.

This problem alone leads to believe that it would be a grave error to bring the Philippines into the Union.

They marry early there, told me a Filipina, I used to know, grandmother at 39, whose own grandmother was still living.

Works for me.

This is how WWII started with Japan. We embargoed oil shipments to Japan and tried to cut off their other oil supplies.

Now we are attempting the same thing only to China instead.

Oh and what is the one thing that could really help Islam around the world ? That would be a US China war. It would be between the two most important countries in world leaving a huge power vacuum. It would be the end of Capitalism, Buddism and Christianity leaving what ? Sharia Law and Islam.

well

it would also end any “chamber of commerce” or agriculture demand for support of cheap illegal immigrants

as any resident of the Phillipines would not be an “immigrant” at all, and as already good English speakers, they’d readily supply willing workers in all kinds of industries

and as far as the “oil patch”

well just like other U.S. States, they’d have a lot to say about offshore or onshoire oil drilling in their state and they get a chunk of the royalty revenue from any producing wells - just look at Alaska

does that mean business ONLY for U.S. Oil companies?

No. Oil companies from all over the world are invloved in the U.S. domestic oil & gas business

Does Obama intend on doing this with an executive order? If they could locate a copy of the constitution they would find there is a process to go through.

“The Filipino sentiment against American colonialism “

There was never any American Colonialism vis-a-vis Philippines. Spain Colonized the Philippines.

1898 End of Spanish American war, Treaty of Paris charges the U.S to administer the Philippines.

1899 Philippines declared war on the U.S

1901 Pretty well much over as U.S keeps administering the Island, and introduces Bicameral form of Civilian government

1916 U.S promises and all indicators are it has no intention of keeping the Philippines, creates a road map that includes ever increasing the jurisdictional duties of the Philippino government.

1934 — The Philippine Independence act and the Birth of Commonwealth of the Philippines.

1946 — Delayed several years because of occupied Philippines during WWII. Philippines is an independant Nation — but still heavily influenced by U.S interests.

late 70’s early 80’s they [the Philippines] loved the U.S. There might have been some ‘dead enders’ but for the most part, it was bliss for American Servicemen picking up good wives and the wives getting citizen ship and anchoring for the rest of the family — which I didn’t mind, they are good people.

Marcos was not bad as far as quasi dictators go, but the agiprops worked against him. Though it was their right and pretty cleanly done, it probably wasn’t prudent of them to overthrow Marcos. They could have convinced the U.S government to talk him out as he was getting a bit long in the tooth.

In Vietnam, “nothing felt safer or reassuring than seeing a smiling Filipino.” [third hand]

I would love for the Philippines to join up, though in the long run I don’t think it’s a good idea. Bad strategy as we should be focusing on South America.
