I think the real reason is that she’s not done with politics. Had she denounced McCain, and ran for office, she would have had to run an independent campaign devoid of any party funding.

Palin doesn’t need to actually denounce McCain, just quietly step away and decline to comment - positively or negatively - on anything to do with McCain.

Your comment is not logically consistent. If the second part is correct, then the first part is not.

IOW, by not denouncing him, she retains the sizable support and allies McCain has in AZ and DC. Should she ever run for office again.

You know, the non Bush Familia wing of the GOP party, who think the Bushes/Rove went way over the line in their treatment of McCain in 2000, and who don’t want to return to Bush Republicanism.

This nation is too big and the parties too powerful for an outsider to ever win a major election without some backing from one of the major political parties.

By remaining loyal to McCain in the areas where she can, she does not burn bridges with a significant, and I suspect, growing segment of the national party who are Sick of Bushes.
