I Look Down On Young Women With Husbands And Kids And I’m Not Sorry
Thought Catalog blog ^ | January 15, 2014 | Amy Glass

Every time I hear someone say that feminism is about validating every choice a woman makes I have to fight back vomit.

Do people really think that a stay at home mom is really on equal footing with a woman who works and takes care of herself? There’s no way those two things are the same. It’s hard for me to believe it’s not just verbally placating these people so they don’t get in trouble with the mommy bloggers.

Having kids and getting married are considered life milestones. We have baby showers and wedding parties as if it’s a huge accomplishment and cause for celebration to be able to get knocked up or find someone to walk down the aisle with. These aren’t accomplishments, they are actually super easy tasks, literally anyone can do them. They are the most common thing, ever, in the history of the world. They are, by definition, average. And here’s the thing, why on earth are we settling for average?

If women can do anything, why are we still content with applauding them for doing nothing?

I want to have a shower for a woman when she backpacks on her own through Asia, gets a promotion, or lands a dream job not when she stays inside the box and does the house and kids thing which is the path of least resistance. The dominate cultural voice will tell you these are things you can do with a husband and kids, but as I’ve written before, that’s a lie. It’s just not reality.

You will never have the time, energy, freedom or mobility to be exceptional if you have a husband and kids.

I hear women talk about how “hard” it is to raise kids and manage a household all the time. I never hear men talk about this. It’s because women secretly like to talk about how hard managing a household is so they don’t have to explain their lack of real accomplishments. Men don’t care to “manage a household.” They aren’t conditioned to think stupid things like that are “important.”

Women will be equal with men when we stop demanding that it be considered equally important to do housework and real work. They are not equal. Doing laundry will never be as important as being a doctor or an engineer or building a business. This word play is holding us back.

tasty treats? 2 sides of my farm property was a corn field. After they were done with the field, I would go out with a bag and glean the field with corn that was left over. I dumped it on the barn floor and in less than 24 hours they had all learned to eat corn on the cob. They told me they didn’t like the hot chocolate I offered them.LOL smart animal. but I had to go pick up all the cobs when they were done. Smart enough to know the cob was not tasty...hope your gals and guy are holding out well in this lousy weather.....GG

This one is much worse, once you can wrap your head around it:

PIV is always rape, ok?

I pity the author. She’s not “looking down”, she’s on the outside looking in. Really sad, there are no showers on her horizon.

I couldn’t finish it.
What can you say to people like that?
I actually don’t personally know anyone that extreme, but I suspect our colleges and universities have them in lecture halls.

It appears this woman would like men to not exist at all. Whatever.

This is the attitude our sons will bump into occasionally on campus. I know my boys don’t have a clue they are so despised & I don’t have the heart to tell them.

I don’t my son to spend his college years screwing around, so if some women want to completely avoid him (and other men), I’m happy with that!

If he runs into someone of this kind as an instructor, I hope he’ll have the common sense to just keep his mouth shut and turn in the required work ... but common sense isn’t his strong point. I’m very anxious about the whole thing.

My son lucked out by landing an advisor who is smart and knows which profs target young male athletes.
He has had to take some inconvenient night classes at her urging - but I trust her judgement.

That’s good. My son isn’t an athlete, but hopefully someone will inform him if there are professors who target young male smart-mouthed narcissists.

His freshman year - he would text me from his “workshops” - that cover the liberal’s pet causes .... Sexual harassment & oppression. Racism & white privilege. I told him to smile and keep his mouth shut.
The one area that can get dicey is psychology “experiments” where the kids are asked leading questions, and YOU KNOW they are trying to identify “improper” attitudes.
It’s really bad.
My boy can be quite a space cadet, but he managed to dodge those landmines.

Wow! Something to watch out for in the orientation. I’m hoping that, with its being an honors program in sciences, they’ll quickly get to real academic work.

They are just annoying little “workshops” they put the new students through on top of their regular coursework. Some of it is online & some of it is in the classroom.
The psych stuff though - that was an entire semester & I was on pins and needles till it was over

I thought MINE were spoiled!!!

I let mine go glean for themselves!

I found out they will eat soybeans; too.

He'll learn.

That's what he is there for.
