Driving the Nazis out couldn't wait until after Easter. The Allies apologize for not restoring your freedom on your timetable.
“xone”,
First: The Allies bombed Belgrade during the Easter season in 1944 at the behest of Josip Broz Tito, under the false PRETENSE of “driving the Nazis out”. However, Zagreb in Croatia did not have to to endure this same action.
Second: The Allies did not restore freedom. They gave Yugoslavia to communist dictator Tito on a silver platter.
Third: Please explain the sarcasm regarding “The Allies apologize for not restoring your freedom on your timetable”.
Thank you.

On that Easter Sunday 1944
Number of German Nazis killed by 15th USAAF: 18
Number of Belgraders murdered: over 2000
Value to Communist propaganda: priceless.
For everything else, there is Federal Reserve.
Terror bombing of Serbian civilians continued to September 1944, even after Ploesti fell in Soviet hands in August, thus making target of opportunity implausible.
Almost all German Nazis were able to retreat from Greece unscathed. They were NOT the target, Serbian civilians were. Thousands murdered in Nis, Pirot and other smaller towns.
This is untold story still needed "why".
15 USAAF suffered horrible casualties, over 50%. Yet, US and British airmen (over 500 of them) were not airlifted from Serbia.
It is reasonable to believe that, if they returned to their bases, they would have objected to murdering of Serbian civilians, and therefore they were not needed, until Communist took power is Serbia.
As I said, it is murky chapter that requires serious research.
