1) They went to the meetings nobody else wanted to go to.
2) They volunteered to do the things nobody else would do.
3) They were then asked to serve on some committee.
4) Eventually they were put in charge of something because there were so few people willing to do anything.Agreed. A variation of the old Communist tactic to take over a group: "Come early, stay late".
My wife used to get suckered into many events at the Senior Center due to No. 4. Not any more.
