A video published to YouTube shows a good number of average Americans eager and willing to sign a [satirical] petition that advocates a Nazi-style Orwellian system of government to supposedly keep the American people safe.
Political prankster Mark Dice asks random San Diego beach-goers to sign a petition to dramatically increase Nazi-style measures to keep the community safe. Dice makes the satirical case that the government shutdown not only cut back on funding for national parks, but has also cut back on funding for the police state. Signature after signature, Americans willingly sign their name to a petition to implement Orwellian style control over the American people.

If someone invented a product like SOMA and handed it out today there would be millions who would line up for it
(I know, I know... that was Aldous Huxley- Brave New World)
I hope that FOX picks this up and broadcasts it on their local stations, particularly in San Diego.
What’s most disturbing about this trend is that the “dihydrogen oxide” guys went out of their way to make sure everything they said was at best a half-truth; this guy is straight-up calling for the 1984 police state and people enthusiastically lunge for the petition.
The conspiracy community long ago decided that that’s why “they” are “allowing” marijuana to be legalized.
When I compare how many police cars I see patrolling my very safe area with how many I saw in Ireland - as many in one day here as in two weeks there, where oddly enough I was just as safe without a constant police presence - yeah, we live in a police state.
We invented soma thousands of years ago.
Alcohol, coca, caffeine, tobacco, cannabis, khat...
Who is Orwell? Of course we need the police to keep us safe....
Off to the slaughter they go...
We really have gotten the government we deserve.
Had a friend from central asia. Her dad came to visit her and was waiting outside her apartment for her to come home. The neighbors called the police. They showed up and talked to him. And once they got past the language barrier and realized why he was there, they left. But his comment was "This is a free state?"
One thing, that I think will help is the automation of driving. Once the motive to have lots of cops to raise revenues through speeding tickets is lost, I expect to see the number of police rolled way back. They'll, mostly be domestic abuse cops at that point.
Oh, goody. From the police state to the central surveillance state.
When kin I git me SOMA dat?
And central control, too.

You’re probably very overoptimistic.
I don’t think some people think before they act.
They are well on their way to the central surveillance state and didn't need automated driving to get there. They've got cameras up on major roadways. NSA is collecting your communications. They are already pushing for black box recorders in cars that aren't automated.
Automated driving may or may not create the opportunity for another point of data collection. But the battle against a surveillance state is something we must wage whether or not technology advances in the ways I want it to.

When I first saw those cameras I thought they were fo adjusting the timing of the traffic lights - you know, no left turn signal if there are no cars in the left lane.
Silly me.
Can’t even go live in the woods life a hermit off the grid - itty bitty drones gonna be flying around.
Ha. I just recently came back from Ireland and noted the same. Hell, even in Belfast; I noted only one (heavily armored, but still) police car. In the Southern driving tour (10 days, and boy was that ‘fun’ sometimes), I think we saw 2 others w/out their lights
And yet, I never had a worry the whole time there.
Sad. Just damn sad what we’ve allowed here
