There are some (insiders) in State Government that have suggested that Chicago is so cooking the books about some of these things that even the published statistics and economy for the entire state are grossly optimistic. Optimistic? Yea. It’s even worse than they are reporting.

Chicago is using its own standards to report jobs, employment, revenue and expenses. They are using accounting tricks to move bad info off of sheets and bolster those numbers that go into the state wide calculations.

I just can’t believe there is layer after layer of corruption in and around Chicago. I’ve never heard of such a thing.

My company moved from IL to NC in 2009. I tried self-employment, but ultimately had to find a day job, which required me to go to Madison, WI (180 miles round trip) every day. After two more years of looking in IL, we gave up, and moved to southern WI. There are some VERY nice towns here, and I recommend the state in many ways to Illinoisans, despite the marginal increase in cold.
