***”And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom,***

If you will study ancient history you will find that wives were given as hostages in treaty negotiations with nations and tribes around them. Also, when a new king came to power he took the first king’s wives as proof of the new king’s authority.

Please note that Absalom went into David’s wives before he was killed and David put away those wives.

Also, plural wives and concubines caused all sorts of problems. Abraham was given Hagar, by Sarah herself, and this has caused all sorts of problems today.

Jacob worked for Rachael but was forced to take Leah by her father. This caused all sorts of family problems with each forcing Jacob to take their handmaidens. There was NO peace in that family.

Gideon had many wives and look what happened to all of his sons! No peace in that family.

David had many wives and look at what happened in that family! Intrigue, treason, fear of your life as it was the norm for a new king to kill the offspring of the the other wives’ kids to prevent one from trying to ursurp the throne.
Thus the intrigue of Nathan trying to get Solomon on the throne instead of Adonijah.

When Adonijah desired the maid of David for a wife, Solomon had him killed because taking this maid would have been seen by the public as a proclamation that Adonijah was the true king with David’s “wife”, even though she was just a bed warmer.

God had warned against these problems put they were ignored by the desires of men, and this is what Jesus was saying.

Moses allowed it because of the hardness of their hearts.

AGAIN! Look at the words of JESUS!

Mat 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery:

NOW! If an old boy marries a woman, then marries another woman (Number 2) is it lawful in GOD”s eyes, or is some dispensation given if he did not put away his first wife before marrying his second?

This thread is about same sex marriage. This is a discussion for another thread.

Going by the regulations that were given as part of the law, I would have to say "yes". I can only go by what the Bible says, not what I want it to say or you or anyone else wants it to say.

Use some simple logic here. If Jesus meant it was adultery to have 2 wives at the same time, why didn't He just say that? Then the verse would read something like "Whosoever shall have a wife and shall marry another, committeth adultery" but He didn't say that. He put in a qualifier that if you "put away your first wife" THEN marry a second you have committed adultery.

As to your first point about where the extra wives came from for David, it matters not. Wives are wives and they were then in every sense of the word.
