GOP senator: Don’t hold debt limit 'hostage' over ObamaCare funds

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said Wednesday he opposes a plan endorsed by at least a dozen Republican senators to shut down the government to block funds for ObamaCare.

Speaking with Chuck Todd on MSNBC’s "Daily Rundown," Blunt was asked directly if he would oppose a deal to raise the debt limit if it included funding for the president’s signature healthcare reform law.

“No, I don’t support that,” Blunt said.

“I think holding the debt limit hostage to any specific thing is probably not the best negotiating place,” he added.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) says he’s recruited more than a dozen Republican colleagues willing to block a continuing resolution to fund the government beyond Sept. 30 if it includes funding for ObamaCare.

The second- and third-ranking members of Republican leadership, Sens. John Cornyn (Texas) and John Thune (S.D.), have said they support Lee’s plan, as do influential conservatives and potential presidential candidates Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Texas).

Blunt joined Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Wednesday as the only other Republican senator to speak out against Lee’s efforts.

Sixty-four Republicans in the House have signed on to a similar effort to try and block the president’s signature healthcare reform law.

A number of conservative groups are pressing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to back Lee. Heritage Action endorsed the effort on Tuesday, and the Club for Growth penned a letter to McConnell on Wednesday urging him to sign on to the plan.

Before I clicked on the article I was wondering, which GOP senator? One of the usuals?? Nope. Roy Blunt, who has apparently allied himself with John McCain.

Roy Blunt, former member of the leadership in the House, now in the Senate, and allying himself with John McCain, against defunding Obamacare, for an increase in the debt ceiling. This man too should be in his final term in the Senate!

Wait. Didn’t we just raise the debt ceiling? Mr. Obama called such actions irresponsible when they were done under the Boosh administration. Now he keeps raising the debt even higher. Toss his bum butt out on his bum.

If this c*cksucker WAS DOING HIS JOB I wouldn’t be held hostage by ObamaCare right now!

If you can count on the GOP for one thing, it’s to stand together united on tough issues not.

Quit holding us hostage to your psychotic government agenda, and while you’re at it, go to Hell, Blunt.

I passionately want the GOP to shut down the government. Drive this economy off the cliff until revenue > spending.

It will hurt real bad. There may even be riots when the checks quit coming in. But it will be good to see what is eventually coming.

Unless he has a feasible plan for thwarting CommieCare, which I absolutely guarantee you he does NOT, he needs to sit down and shut up. They need to be of a mindset to do WHATEVER needs to be done to defend our freedom. Burn down the capitol, go home, WHATEVER THEY CAN DO they have to do. Otherwise they haven't fulfilled their oaths of office.

Yeah, let’s not use the only leverage we have. It wouldn’t be fair.

Funny kind of limit, that whenever you reach it you just raise it.
A no limits limit.

Suggestion, how about an old fashion limit.

It is called Budget.

Obamacare aside, not one Congress critter should be voting for an increase in the debt limit.

A sad indicator these fools are still listening to Karl Rove.

“You can’t shut down the government! They’re gonna cream us if you guys shut down the government!”

The incredibly important, even sacred, Debt Limit Ceiling.
Apparently it's an awesome thing to behold and reach.
LOL!! What a joke!

I’d like to see the GOP slip an ObamaCare repeal into the conference committee bill for some huge piece of legislation that no one will read. Phrase it so obscurely that no one will know at first glance what it means and there is no time for more than that glance until it is passed and signed. Then announce that the American people won. That tactic would be sleazy, but considering the sleaze of the far left, it’s time to fight by their rules when it’s in the interests of our country.

I did. But I said it this way.

If you don’t stop Obamacare and Amnesty, you won’t have to worry about a political strategy that keeps your job secure. We the people cannot afford to be governed any longer. Shut it down.

How about you HOLD TO THE “LIMIT”

Does anyone know or understand the meaning of the word “limit”???

it is supposed to be the MOST YOU ARE ALLOWED to deficit spend, not a meaningless deadline to move when you hit it.
