The funny thing is that the guys who wrote those lyrics were out and about to protest Bush, and are silent now that Obama is out doing Bush in something happening here that ain’t exactly clear.
When that song came out, the government had already become what it is today.
Some people are late to the party and think that it is something that just sprang up in the last 20 years or so.
They don’t seem to remember or know that combat troops were forcing the new way of life of one mind, one authority, onto the people back in the 1950s and 1960s.
People have a vague recollection that suddenly Americans lost control of their own lives and communities, but it doesn’t occur to them that the force and violence, intelligence gathering, and widespread use of double agents, spies, and informants that it took to reshape the people was brutal and widespread, and it never ended.
And we thought the 60’s and 70’s were scairy...Ha.
These 60’s ‘rebels’ are more totalitarian than aynone could have imagined...so much for freedom. ha.
Back then, there were plenty of violent and thugish “peace people”..Black panthers, bill ayers...Now they have the power of govt.But they were always elitists who made everyone think it was about peace and love. Yeah, right.
The thugs always co-opt the “revolution”.
