House Speaker John Boehner wouldn't go so far as to say that he and his Republican colleagues won't waste time trying to overturn President Obama's healthcare law, but the Representative did tell ABC News' Diane Sawyer that the signature legislation is "the law of the land."
"It's pretty clear that the president was reelected, Obamacare is the law of the land," he said, before adding, "I think there are parts of the healthcare law that are gonna be very difficult to implement. And very expensive."
Asked, "You won't be spending the time next year trying to repeal Obamacare?" Boehner responded, "There certainly may be parts of it that we believe-- need to be changed. We may do that. No decisions at this point."
Boehner also told Sawyer, "We don't have a Tea Party caucus to speak of in the House" and insisted failed vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is not the leader of the party. Rather, he's a "policy wonk."
"He's involved in the cause of trying to bring us pro-growth economic agendas for America and making sure that we're doing this in a fiscally responsible way," said Boehner. "I'm glad that Paul Ryan's coming back to the Congress."
Watch video of Boehner telling Sawyer the GOP will not raise taxes to cope with the forthcoming fiscal cliff AFTER THE JUMP...
UPDATE: And, Boehner walks it back.
ObamaCare is law of the land, but it is raising costs & threatening jobs. Our goal has been, and will remain, #fullrepeal.
Really stunning the GOP was not all over the layoffs announced yesterday and today. Just another fumble from the Stupid Party playbook.
I can’t bear to watch this thing.
This might sound stupid, but why can’t we (as states) just say “no”? What’s he going to do? Cut off federal funding to half the country if they don’t implement Obamacare?
Our push in the coming years needs to be focused like a laser on one thing. Red state autonomy. We won’t be dictated to by a Chicago thug. Keep your crap in New England, and let us run our states the way we want to.
Thank You, John Roberts
People need to realize Boehner is only in charge of 1/3 of the government. He has to choose his battles carefully. The tea party has no one to blame but itself because they are the reason the Dems kept the Senate in 2010 and they are the reason we did not get Claire McKallis’s seat in MO and lost the IN seat by the stupid canidates they backed
Mark Levin discussed this today, and he also said more than once that Boehner said that comprehensive immigration reform was a top priority.
Mark repeated and discussed that several times, but I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere else. Haven’t watched the video and probably won’t.
But if Boehner is saying that, then he really has drunk a gallon of the RINO, beltway Kool Aid.
Most Freepers I believe think Boehner has magical powers and just doesn’t want to use them to repeal ObamaCare.
The fact is Roberts was right: We get the government we elect.
If we keep electing liberal presidents and senators and only 1/3 is conservative guess what....
Boehner has a responsibility to do what he was sworn to do, that is to serve. Doing nothing is not serving.... unless you’re a dem
Boehner 'confident' GOP, Obama can reach deal on immigration
Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Senate Immigration, Refugees and Border Security Subcommittee, called Boehner's comments a "breakthrough."
As if the Rats even need Boner.
In hearing this, and other things, I wish the GOP would just start lying like Obama does. Say “Obamacare is the law of the land”, but then do everything in their power to stop it (don’t pass bills to fund it, etc.).
Say “we will work with the President on taxes”, but then do everything they can do limit them.
If Obama can say things like the arab world loves us, the economy is getting better, and more people are working than before - we need to do the same.
I started a new thread on this. Haven’t noticed it posted or even mentioned other than on Levin’s show.
I agree - thank you, John Roberts.
He is right. Obamacare is the law of the land. The election deemed it so. We lost, simple as that.
It is time for the “Constitutional Party”. I voted against Obama, not for Romney. I am done with the Republicans.
Great - so we’re going to pander to the 40% of Hispanics that voted “D”. I was thinking that New Mexico was going to have to change it’s name. But I guess if we have a New York, New York we can have a New Mexico, New Mexico.
It’s so easy to say: “ ObamaCare clearly conflicts with the tenth amendment and is not supported by the commerce clause, and since the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, ObamaCare is invalid and we will fight for its entire repeal until it is gone.”
So why didn’t he say that?
I don’t believe CommieCare was never going to be repealed. One excuse or another would have been made by the GOP as to why it couldn’t be.
We were stuck with it from day one, but the GOP got a lot of mileage out of it for stringing us along.
Same with the upcoming amnesty. We were getting one regardless of who won the White House.
I,peachment is too good for this son of a b___h.
He should be tarred and feathered.
I certainly hope he is removed from a leadership position in the House - IMMEDIATELY and urge everyone here to contact their GOP Representative DEMANDING this!
I don’t WANT Obamacare! I have worked all my life for a healthcare program from my employer, Obama is STEALING that from me, giving it to a bunch of people who have NOT worked,as well as RUINING Medicare and this BASTARD is helping him!!!
The GOP has to GO!!! The Tea Party should replace it!!
They have to GO!!!!!!
I want BOEHNER’S Healthcare program!!
