I agree with you with one caveat: Most of the rural counties, even in blue states, are actually red (I know it's the case here in the People's Democratic Socialist Republic of Illinois). It's like living behind the iron curtain (And yes, I'm working on getting my rear end out).

Chicago is 120 miles away).

They are conservative like us.
