After Bob Taft's death, Conservative Republicans were basically neutered during the Eisenhower years. Goldwater didn't have enough influence to affect the party philosophy. Plus there was very little policy wise that set apart the two parties.

I only know one thing .. IF WE DON’T FORGET OUR PETTY COMPLAINTS .. WE’RE GOING TO LOSE THIS WHOLE COUNTRY.

SOME PEOPLE NEED TO GET OVER THEMSELVES.

IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND POLITICS .. THEN CHOOSE ANOTHER VOCATION.

I’m so sick and tired of all the whining and complaining. We need to man-up and take on the dems with the object of WINNING THIS ELECTION. That’s all that matters NOW!! We can deal with other stuff later!!!!!

And still we cling to the Republicrat wing of the one party system. Excuse the indelicacies, but Conservatives are treated like the ugly girl at te fraternity party. They load her up with booze, have their way with her and the next morning, gets tossed out with the rest of the garbage.

This is the last election for the Republicrats. If Romney wins, the Republicrats will continue to move leftward, until they are indistinguishable from the Democans. If Romney loses, we will have a dictatorship.

"Goldwater didn't have enough influence to affect the party philosophy."

Partly because the backstabbing Rinos Nelson Rockefeller, William Scranton and George Romney (father of you-know-who) ripped into Goldwater continually during the 1964 campaign. A disgusting spectacle that was repeated every election cycle when a conservative was on the ballot, producing Reagan's Eleventh Commandment ("Thou shalt not criticize other Republicans.")

This list is trivial.

Conservatives have mostly been sold out by other conservatives doing things they called conservative that were nothing but piggybacking their personal preferences onto big government progressivism because it was easier and more reliable than doing it the right way.

The guy that clearly won the Republican debates did NOT translate into primary wins.
Why?
Slanted attacks and ads by 1) Romney 2) Santorum 3) Paul ... In order of severity. Caused voters to question Newts creds. Each of the candidates had drawbacks but in my opinion Newt had the fewest!

Voters couldn’t see thru the hocus pocus of outright lies or half truths and we got what we deserved ...Mitt.

The most decent, polished, and knowlegeable was Newt... try and tell me I’m wrong.

Now we have to wait and see how Romney does in the liberal moderated debares !? (I don’t think Newt would ever have agreed to this kind of slanted debates)

“I think Romney has a lot of what Reagan had, but he just doesn’t know how to get the reg’lar guy to believe it or “feel” it.”

Romney is a flat out liberal!!!!

There isn’t a conservative bone in his body.

Seeing all this happen we decided in 1960 to never have children that would have to live in the aftermath of the total destruction of the US.

I really expected us to be where we are now about 20 years ago but it has been due to conservatives fighting back that has delayed our total demise.

Even Reagan was a big government tax and spend politician, when Governor of CA he doubled government employment and tripled taxes.

He only balanced the budget in his last year by getting withholding tax passed thereby giving the state 2 years taxes in one year, his last.

All of these are good points, but remember that from a historical perspective, Republicans were usually considered the liberal party in many respects. That only really began to change after misfits and freaks began to dominate the Democratic Party in the 1960s. That was when rural conservatives (mainly in the South and West) who previously had identified themselves as Democrats began to migrate to the Republican Party.

The success of the Republican Party in Congress in recent decades isn't as much a success of "conservatism" as it is a change in party affiliation among many voters. The "Republican Revolution" of 1994, for example, was an election in which many conservative Democrats in the House were replaced by Republicans.

We could start by not charging into battle with the 3rd rail battle du jour.

In this election we should stick to the economy and the budget. Contraception and such are not issues at the moment.
Who is that ahole in Missouri? Akin? He could have held his tongue and made us proud, but NO! He couldn’t keep his powder
dry

I guess we can add a #11

11. Dumping the social conservative base for the votes of liberals and illegal aliens.

Try winning an election without the conservative base

You have to alter the media, they control the general perception of culture.

Pure and simple....and the left controls it almost completely.

Well we can all agree that we were proud of Newt when he “Newterered” the Liberal debate moderators and the press.

Conservatives have done their part to help betray themselves.

By jumping into bed with the Mitt Romneys of the world, we really say we will fold like a cheap suit despite all our big talk and bravado. It’s no wonder the GOP-E feels it can have its way whenever it wants.

We let them.

I think libs have had it in for Coolidge since Sacco and Vanzetti the same way they had it in for Nixon after he defeated democrat congressman Jerry Voorhis in '46.

Every thing my teachers have told me about these two republicans is the first one was a do-nothing failure and second was just plain evil.

Hey, even though Romney was not my 1st choice (there were some that I wished and had encouraged to run). And certainley he is no Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Coolidge or Reagan !

But he is way the phuc better than that “transform = tear down” socialist/communist, redistributionist, tele-prompter reading, community organising (Acorn / SEIU) , in bed with every “hate America” fringe-radical group HERE and ABROAD, Chicago UNION thug, muslim axx kissing BUFFOON that A mericans were stupid to elect to the Office of President of The United States !

Lets get Romney ELECTED and as many Conservative Senators, Congressmen, State and Local people as possible !!! And turn back the liberal horde for our childrens and grandchildrens sake.

American Patriots rose to many a crisis in the past - let us not shirk Our Duty NOW! Let it be said of US that we were the generation that turned America back from the brink and back to the principles of Our Founding Fathers. Amen

I've heard this before.

"But..."

Followed by this.

I rest my case.

Agree- + your #9 re; Goldwater is right on. If Kennedy isn’t killed, Goldwater wins that election. Bay of Pigs, Berlin Wall, Khrushchev embarrassing him in Vienna. He and Johnson weren’t going to be able to “steal” the election as was done vs Nixon in 1060
