I’ve been to Hawaii several times (and return in October for a vacation in Maui) and never got the feel it was a liberal stronghold. The natives I run into there tend to be conservative. On our last trip, we met the owners of a coffee shop in Kona and also the owners of a coffee farm. Very nice people and definitely not liberal. People look like they are hard-working there. I did see some homeless people out on Ali’i drive in Kailua-Kona. I guess if you are going to be homeless, you could do a lot worse than to be homeless in Hawaii.

Kona's one of the most conservative areas in the State.

Don't know if you made it over to Hilo/Puna on the BI but that is way more liberal.

Hawaii is the only State in which the number and percentage of Christians is growing relative to its population, according to Barna.
