solar chargers will work for quite a while.

Are you talking about panels into deep cycle batteries or smaller units that directly charge rechargeable batteries? If the later, what do you use?

I guess there’d be a bunch of ways to charge your hand-helds.

I have a palm sized solar charger for iPhone/iTouch.
Also, a car charger adapter (your car is a great battery charger).
You could also charge deep cycle batteries with solar panels, hook up the inverter & the “house” device charger, or the car charger directly to one of the 12 volts.

I’m looking into solar panels and deep cycle batteries for the house. Something to provide lights and a few options.

There are also some very good backpacking solar systems. These are fairly rugged and will provide enough for laptops and GPS devices.
