This is “as good as we’re going to see?”

Santorum on guns:

Guns

Voted to require pawn shops to do background checks on people who pawn a gun.

Voted twice to make it illegal to sell a gun without a secure storage or safety device.

Voted for a Federal ban on possession of “assault weapons” by those under 18.

Voted for Federal funding for anti-gun education programs in schools.

Voted for anti-gun juvenile justice bill.

.
This is Bill Clinton with an “R”

"Forget the NRA BS numbers..."

OK. The NRA actually has Newt just a little behind Santorum, but since you want me to discard those, I guess I'll just have to stick with the GOA ratings exclusively which have Newt even further behind.

I must be a political opportunist, because when people trot out Santorum votes that can be interpreted as liberal, or as not 100% conservative, I say good. It will make it much harder to brand him as a “right winger” in the general election.

There is a general election to win, you know. And I suspect if someone looks at Romney’s STATED positions, he is almost 100% conservative at this point because he’s trying so hard to convince the base.

The facts are these, Romney was a liberal in Mass. (Or at least far more liberal than he claims now;

Santorum, to my surprise, has his own big govt liberal and moderate record;

And Newt definitely flirted with global warming and some other liberal notions rather recently, before getting back on track.

All are politicians. That’s why even Obama does some moderate things to try and stay in office.

And that’s why the republican nominee will get my wholehearted support to throw out Obama.

I don’t think we gun owners should have any real concerns with either Newt or Rick. My husband and I are both NRA members and have carry permits. We have researched the candidates positions with our local NRA Chapters.

The only candidate with a really dubious record is Romney, who was very anti-gun as Gov. of Mass. He joined the NRA prior to his first campaign for President, a rather obvious move.

Of course, he has a gun for “small critters”. Doesn’t need one for protection since he relies on his trusty magic underwear!

But did he sit on a couch with Nancy Pelosi to stump for Carbon taxation by saying that Man Made Climate Change is the greatest threat facing our world? I don’t recall that. I know Newt did though and that is all I need to know about Newt.

I agree with you completely. That's precisely why I merely feel compelled to respond to the smears that are posted against Santorum. It only takes a few seconds to fling a bucket full of pooh around the monkey house. It can take hours to clean it all up.

As someone who has known Rick for 18 years now, I’ve gotta say that anyone who compares him to the Predator on anything is off base. Rick is pro-gun, period, and he is NOT viewed as a friend by the nutty Carolyn McCarthys and Sarah Bradys of the world. You know that. Everyone knows that. Bob

I hate it when anyone gets unfairly smeared. I appreciate it very much when folks take time to check the record.

Thanks for your post.

In 2002 Romney told a group of abortion and gay activists that he wanted to “moderate” the Republican Party.

He was a pro-abortion and pro-gay leader as Governor of Mass

I don’t think leopards can change their spots.

I watched Rick Santorum speak for the first time at the "C"PAC. He seems to be the nicest guy of the bunch, and with a pleasant family. To me, he seems too nice and soft.

My concern is that he will find it difficult to become respected and feared by Islamic extremists, or even Liberal extremists, for that matter.

I find that Newt Gingrich is in tune with my perception of both; Islamic and Liberal extremism. He also appears to be on my wavelength relating to media. I've neither watched tv nor read newspapers in over a decade because I see modern journalism, and even entertainment, as overly political and completely out of touch with reality.

Like him, I loved Isaac Asimov; especially the entire 'Foundation' series, starting from the 'The Pebble in the Sky' and 'The Caves of Steel.' If he's familiar with these books, he knows the phrase 'violence is the last refuge of the incompetent,' and he should also have a good sense of a larger picture and the importance of the details.

Personally, I think the most obvious answer to over-crowding is not abortion or population control, but simply expansion into space. And I think it's a safety issue, since we are all 'eggs-in-one-basket.'

A renewed space-race, especially a private-sector driven one, would do wonders for our global economy and shift attention from politics back to science and successful human activity.

There are already races with prizes in the space industry and I think re-vitalizing NASA by giving them a role in these races (offering prizes instead of wasting budgets on bureaucracy and 'Muslim outreach') our industry could have an opportunity to become the lean, mean, sleek machine our government keeps it from being.

Some people, I think, think Gingrich is too much of a dreamer because he has such big plans, after all, a permanent base on the moon is so "unrealistic." But I think dreams and visions should be a requirement of the Presidency; but healthy dreams and visions, not pathological like the won's.

Gingrich also appears to have a healthy grasp of the situation in the Middle East, and I particularly enjoy listening to him discuss issues relating to Israel. I suspect he will do a good job of restoring ties to all of our allied countries the won dissed, especially Britain.

Like he said, "We want to ensure that no future president ever again bows to a Saudi King, period."

Not a bad rebuttal. I’m sure those debate skills will be honed even further once you reach the fourth grade!

Good points!
A lot of people here scoff and Newt's bold plans such as a renewed technical challenge as in space. They say we are broke, we can't do it. I say boldness if its own economic multiplier and bold technical challenges even more so.
I am afraid we will just take the easy out and continue to kick the can down the road but now perhaps in more “conservative” fashion. I guess rushing to precipice at 60 mph is better then rush toward it at 120 mph. Gives some time to turn around things in the future. Not as much momentum !

It doesn’t matter what this guy thinks. The voters do the deciding.

“They say we are broke, we can’t do it.”

Santorum said that.
Many people may be broke, but not Rick, not him, NO.

After he left Washington in 2006, losing the reelection 41% to 59% (seems that he deeply disappointed the voters who elected him in 2000), he went back home and got ten times more money than his salary in Congress, from the companies he pushed laws for hundreds of millions dollars, when he was Senator.

Instead of $174,000 a year as senator, he has now an income of $1.5 million...

By the way, does anyone know where did Santorum publish his tax returns? After South Carolina, he said he was going home to fill them up and release them.

Where are your tax returns, Rick? Hello?
