GOP Catching Up in FL Senate Race
Pundit Press ^ | 11/11/2011 | Thomas Ferdousi

Just a year after Floridians put Marco Rubio in the Senate, they may decide to send another next year. Incumbent Senator and former astronaut Bill Nelson has not made up his mind on another run, but if he does it may be a difficult race.

He may be facing off against Representative Connie Mack. Congressman Mack has a lot of family history in Florida politics. His grandfather was a Senator from the state. His grandfather was also the legendary baseball manager.

Mack received almost 69% in his re-election bid last year, and has always received upwards of 59% in every race that he's run. In 2006, Nelson received 60%. It would certainly be a competitive race.

I am liking all the opinion polls from Florida. Democrats are really down in florida. Obama is trailing or running neck to neck with republican candidates(incumbent always will lose in that scenario).

What is going on? Is it the governor? Is the jewish vote? Seniors breaking away from democrats? Is it the panhandle?

Is Connie Mack worth sending to Washington? I don’t know anything about him but I am leery of second and third generation politicians.

Perhaps it’s the Democrats in Southeast Florida being clobbered by the real estate market.

former astronaut Bill Nelson

Former astronaut my a$$. In 1986, he became the second sitting member of the United States Congress to fly in space. He went through NASA training with Senator Jake Garn of Utah. He was a Payload Specialist on Space Shuttle Columbia's STS-61-C mission from January 12 to 18, 1986.

I guess if went on a one week cruise on an aircraft carrier, he would be called a former sailor or naval aviator.

If Marco Rubio is the Vice Presidential candidate, it will be awesome. Not only florida, but lot of states like Nevada, Colorado & New Mexico will be easily won by Republicans. Also conservatives would love it. But will he run?

With all the retired service members in Florida the GOP there cannot find somebody with balls enough to serve in uniform to be a candidate? Why not Alan West?

Bingo...I’m even more leery of 2d and 3d generations of men who take a pass on military service, whether they be named Mack, Romney, Cuomo, Sununu, Burr, etc.

Free Disney tickets, compliments of the taxpayer. Meanwhile, Kerry was in Vietnam and Bambi got Osama.

If she had gotten any support from the Republican Party, Harris would have beaten Nelson.

The thing is Republican these days means "Democrat Lite." They have to be conservative for them to be loved by conservatives as you say.
