Don’t beleive the hype from the “Hrelp” you’re getting here.

Huntsville is the finest city in the state. They have the best schools, highest average income and a real estate market that has at least wethered the storm hit nation-wide so, if you move again, your odds of selling your home are very high.

I would recommend the Madison County School district. Bob Jones High School is consistently one of the highest rated high schools in the state.

Also, homes west of town in the Harvest and County Line areas are very nice.

Thank you all for your help! If the people of Huntsville are half as kind and helpful as you have been, it will be an easy move.

Now, to some, I don't know what you think of PA, but I grew up in rural PA. We were taught how to shoot, hunt, and fish as kids. Also, many of the schools here are closed the first day of deer season, due to the number of hunters.

So, other than the Alabama to English language barrier, I don't think it will be that much culture shock.

Grew up in Alabama; may move back someday.

Here's what Wikipedia says about Alabama gun laws:
Alabama may issue a license, either qualified or unlimited, to applicants who are residents of the county in which they apply, who do not have any disqualifying criminal convictions, who are suitable persons, and who have good reason to fear injury to their person or property or have any other proper reason for carrying a handgun.

In practice, virtually all Alabama county sheriffs, as of 2010, issue licenses to all "suitable persons." The law requires applicants to be residents, so they do not issue licenses to non-residents. The license is valid to carry a handgun in a vehicle or concealed on or about one's person within the State. Licenses are valid for up to one year at a time.

That's a lot of discretion for sheriffs, and a lot of paperwork unless renewals are very straightforward.

Here's a question about those regulations, if you know and don't mind commenting.

What's the reality for ordinary "suitable persons"? Thanks.
