Pope Benedict XVI today squarely denounced the "inhuman" Mafia which infests southern Italy as reported by The Associated Press. Benedict issued the condemnation during a Sunday mass in the Calabrian region which is home to the 'Ndrangheta which dominates the European cocaine trade and has surpassed the Cosa Nostra or Sicilian Mafia in power.
This is not the first time that Pope Benedict XVI has taken on the mobsters.
In October 2010 Benedict paid tribute to Rev. Pino Puglisi who was slain by the Sicilian Mafia in 1993, and encouraged the faithful "not to resign themselves to deep-rooted evil on an island where organized crime has held sway for centuries" as then reported by Frances D'Emilio for The Associated Press.
And in 2007 the pontiff had some choice words for the Camorra or Neapolitan Mafia as then reported by Richard Owen for The Times: "It's not only a matter of the deplorable number of crimes of the Camorra, but also the fact that violence tends unfortunately to become a widespread mentality, insinuating itself into the fabric of society."
To confront the Mafia is to stare down the devil itself.

I wonder what he thinks of Muslim terrorists, who continue to kills hundreds of people every month. See www.thereligionofpeace.com for the bloody record of more than 17,000 attacks since 9/11/01.

Oh my, he is behind the times. Its been around for about 100 years...was the black hand before the term mafia came into being...
Puglisi was a brave soul. He was at the door of his church when the mob killers confronted him. He said “I’ve been expecting you for a long time” just before they shot him dead. RIP.
