The Perry supporters have not attacked Palin the way the Palinistas are attacking Perry.

I like Palin, but I simply don’t believe she can beat Obama in the general election. I do believe as of right now that Perry can beat him because he can run on the success of Texas, wether or not he had anything to do with it. Perry can get the independent vote that Palin cannot

How dumb does can the chattering class be?

Dumb enough to stand and "does can" cheer for someone who isn't running.

What are we to do? Ban Muslims?

All we can do is remain vigilant and watchful yet tolerant.

That is America
Maybe you think the guy at the Pentycostal church is a bit whack, Lord knows tons of Dems do.
What ya gonna do? Exile him?
Maybe you think that Baptist is a bit to strict in his belief, what ya gonna do? Exile him?
The Dems would.
Or maybe you just dont like the look of that fellow in the doublewide trailer. Maybe we should ban him from being able to have 2nd amendment rights.

“...everyone now knows that Rick Perry is not a conservative...”

Sarah Palin: “He (Perry) does what is right regardless of whether it is popular. He walks the walk of a true conservative...”

So either Sarah is a liar or an imbecile or you are. I’ll choose the latter.

When it comes to certain topics Mestas’ research is impeccable. I simply don’t have the time to do the research that Mesta has obviously already done. Mesta’s opinion is of high value to me.

It certainly will be interesting to see if debates will contain questions to the candidates about their views on Islam. Palin has also stated we are not at war with Islam. Brief statement, though it was, from her first international speech given in Hong Kong after her resignation from the governorship.

over 600,000 thousand Muslims living in Texas, according to Perry when he gave his Khan speech.

If you look on Muslim sites they mostly all say Texas is the best place to live..."Huge Islamic Centers" "Huge Mosques" etc. etc.....they do build up Texas as better than NYC, Boston, Michigan and other places with a dense Muslim population.

Regardless of the hype, he cannot win. The Dem strategy will be..Another Texas governor? It will re- ignite the anybody but Bush crowd. Completely un-winnable. This is exactly like the Scott hype. Groan.

It only lasted 10 min lol
It was just a cloudburst.
Still, its a sign of relief on the way.
Good Lord knows we need it. This is a bad drought, we are losing livestock, we are losing orchards.
Trees are dying by the day now.

He would be a weak candidate across the Midwest, just as Bush was. He is easier for Obama to beat than Palin would be. Plus he is only beginning to be vetted There are many more shoes to drop on Rick Perry.

The Texas wild card variable is an issue.

I know lots of folks dont see it, but its there.
I think Perry can overcome it but its a wild card.
It’s sad to think that we would exclude someone based on where he was born when we just elected some asshole based on his color, but there it is.

Thanks for the ping and your post.

I usually avoid getting into pissing match threads on FR about potential R candidates since I don't personally like to fight with FRiends, and I think it doesn't help the overall cause much to garner hostility within the ranks. I have my candidate that I wish to support, and once she decides to announce her candidacy I will do just that to the best of my abilities.

I've seen quite a bit of intramural hostilities in the past week or so over Governor Perry. I have to say that I am not that surprised. Here's why:
- we all agree that zero has been the absolute worst POTUS in our history
- we all agree that he needs to be removed from office in 2012 (or this country will be finished, never to be restored until a cataclysmic re-set occurs)
- out of all the announced R candidates to date, Perry seems to be the one that has come out with both guns blazing, taking the FIGHT directly to the target (un-apologetically)
- Perry has a lot of admirable qualities and a very admirable record (for the most part)
- Perry has some questionable positions and actions that raise the concern of a lot of Conservatives.
- we all know (at the same time) the danger of “holding your nose to vote for the rINO served up” and the danger of letting the “perfect be the enemy of the good.” (Heck, just setting a bit alone and trying to rationalize those two can give me a damn headache!)

Therefore, I can fully understand the zeal to get behind him and support him whole hog right from the start. At this point in time, he certainly appears to be the candidate with the best shot at unseating the evil that is currently in place. Hence, I believe a lot of folks are more than willing to “overlook” some of the question marks in his background record, that is natural (given the horrible situation that we have at the present). However, there is still a lot of time between now and election day 2012. There is no rush (at least to me) to declare 100% support to the bitter end of Perry, nor any other candidate. I think it would be wise for all of us to take a collective breath, and let all of the candidates be vetted as thoroughly as possible. (Sure, I know, easier said than done; I get it.)

To me, the root cause of why we have so much intramural hostility is because we have such EVIL in place now. (Let's face it and call a spade a spade, we are in the midst of an existential crisis right now!) We all want to be SURE that it gets removed, our collective lives depend on it! However, in doing so we need to be sure that OUR replacement is the CORRECT replacement; for this time, for this country's dire circumstance!

Well I ain't hanging my hat on any candidate speaking the truth about this. There is a very strong and very deep “Normalcy Bias” in our society that prevents most of the population from seeing the truth about a LOT of things. The problem is, that some truths are just too darn painful and ugly for most to accept. That is just the way it is. (And always has been.)
