The Presidency, From Washington to the Community Organizer
The Constitutional Alamo/YouTube ^ | 06/25/10 | Michael Naragon

For my AP Government and Politics (U.S.) workshop this week, we had to construct unit plans to use for teaching a specific topic. Mine was the president, and, as part of my presentation, I made this short video. It wowed those in the class, but that could be because they're public school teachers and they've never really seen how good Reagan was. I did try to keep it politically neutral, so don't expect a really heavy partisan bent. But I think it still shows how pitiful the Obama presidency is, in a very subtle way. Enjoy!

And a note of clarification... there were a couple of conservative teachers in the class who appreciated Reagan’s humor.

Thank the OP for his excellent work!

The clip showing the Inauguration of President George Washington is from the 2008 TV mini-series, “John Adams.”

The method for posting a HTML link is fairly simple. The following format is used:

Link Description where "URL" is the URL address you want to link to (and you gotta use the double quotes), and Link Description is whatever you want to call your link.

For example:

Link to Drudge becomes Link to Drudge

Thank you! I was having difficulty recalling where I had seen that scene.

I was quite surprised to discover I learned additional information about America's Declaration of Independence from a movie I had no previous interest in. I saw the musical 1776 one evening on television and was impressed.

It actually saddens me when I realize just how uninformed and misinformed many of my fellow citizens are regarding America's history. Perhaps even sadder is that they are not interested.

Glenn Beck's Founders Friday has also been extremely enlightening because of the previously unknown historical information presented.

How many people do you know who are referring to the upcoming national holiday as "The Fourth of July" rather than "Independence Day"?

Someone of my acquaintance who was a visible BO supporter made a point of mentioning that for the "Fourth of July" weekend, he would be out of the country on holiday.

Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it. Calling Independence Day "The 4th" goes back many years before the commies usurped control of our country. I grew up in a very conservative little town back in the days when Democrats were still Americans, and everyone called it "The 4th".

I think it's just syllable economy, 2 instead of 5.

for the "Fourth of July" weekend

Just before Memorial Day a notice from the White House announced that the first family would “vacation” this weekend in Chicago. The First Lady was quoted as saying that this time the children “decided” where they would spend their mini-vacation.

Those of us old enough to remember might recall a parent or grandparent who referred to it as “Decoration Day.” We might recall as well that “Memorial Day,” was not on the last Monday in May, serving as an endcap for a three day weekend of sales and vacations, but instead was observed on May 30, no matter what day of the week that was.

And thus it was until 1971 when Congress, creating three day weekends for government employees, including themselves, reordered Memorial Day to the last Monday of the month.

We were a single America, united in memory. Yes there was already the blaring of ads on a new thing called television, about Memorial Day sales, and the exodus to the beach by some, but as a shared culture, Memorial Day was a day of memory, recollection and prayer.

We are two Americas today. Presidents have “missed” visiting Arlington before this day but this time, the reasons why and what commentators have said in defense so clearly shows a national divide.

Vacation? So Memorial Day is now a vacation weekend, even for the first family?
