NRA's Wayne LaPierre Praises Harry Reid In Nevada

As the Tea Party Express rolled into Searchlight on Saturday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wasn’t home. Instead, he spent his morning at the grand opening of the Clark County Shooting Park, firing a shotgun at one of the facility’s new ranges.

“Everyone has said this is the greatest park in the United States of America, but I say it’s the greatest gun park in the world,” Reid said.

Reid helped to secure land and $61 million for the 2,900-acre facility under the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act. He was joined at the ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday by National Rifle Association of America Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, Rep. Shelley Berkley, Rep. Dina Titus, state Sen. John Jay Lee and Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins.

Reid practiced shooting at one of the ranges, firing six rounds from a 12-gauge shotgun and hitting two clay birds. Each clay bird busted into pieces and the crowd cheered as Reid reloaded the gun. Collins also fired several rounds.

Shooting at the park, on the northern edge of the valley, costs $7 per day for rifles, pistols and archery and $6 per 25-bird round for shotguns.

It has an archery range and building with a 30-seat classroom, a rifle and pistol range, and a shotgun center and 80 spaces for recreational vehicles.

LaPierre said the park is expected to be a tourist attraction with 35,000 to 40,000 people expected to participate in shooting activities each year.

“I know how you worked,” LaPierre said to Reid before turning back to the audience. “(This) would not have opened without the work of Sen. Reid.”

Since the park first opened on weekends in January, Lee said more than 4,000 shooters have participated – which he called a significant amount considering the range hasn’t been advertising.

The park will also be used for educational purposes, Collins said. Many youth groups have visited the park to learn about shooting sports and gun safety, he said.

Michael Reese, 15, said he has been shooting for seven years and visits the park every other weekend with his father. It’s become a tradition for the two of them, he said.

“It’s a very nice facility,” Reese said.

Pretty insensitive of Reed to be shooting when all those tea partiers in town. I am deeply disturber by the symbolism.

I’ve yet to see the NV facility, but I don’t think that it will be the equal of the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM.

The fact that this range would not have existed without Harry Reid's intervention speaks volumes about how much government is affecting our lives.

Wayne, you are siding with the enemy. I hope you realize this before it is too late.

Harry Reid, buying off the NRA. Very nice. Any really honest person would have called that for what it is - bribery.

Wayne’s a Washington insider heading a sell-out gun group — the NRA.

Get right. Get out of the NRA and into:

Isn’t it true that the health care law, which Reid supported, would create a national database with everybody’s health records? Such a database could be used to deny some Americans with mental health records the ability to purchase a gun, sans adjudication. The records could also be put into NICs, which don’t need no steenkin’ adjudication, as far as I know.

Thanks a lot, Wayne.

Sorry Wayne, but I would venture to say that ANY elected official from Nevada could have worked to get the facility opened.

One more reason I have such difficulty adding my name to the rolls of the NRA. No such problem with the JPFO, or GOA. NRA, GOINO has the numbers and the money, but the board was taken over years ago by the same type of folks running the RINO party.

The NRA continually bombards lifetime members with phone calls looking for money.

I have begged and pleaded with them, on the phone and by mail, to leave my 90 year old lifetime-member father alone, but they ignore me and continue to call, at least twice per week.

No way will I ever join the NRA. LaPierre and Reid deserve each other.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have always hated the fact that the NRA supports dems like Reid. Even if Reid says he is pro-2nd Amendment, he can always be counted on to support an anti-2nd Amendment judicial appointee. There are no pro-2nd amendment dems or pro-life dems anymore.

I quit the NRA years ago because of LaPierre's increasing coziness with the enemy.

What the history not in review is the relationship between the NRA and the NSSF/SAMMI. Truth is NSSF supported the 1968 gun control act along with the NRA. Bottom line is the NRA always positions itself with the NSSF, which is completely a lobbying cartel for the largest firearms manufactuers in the US. If legislation in congress does not impact the NSSF/SAMMI members the NRA is silent. Look how long it took the arrogant NRA with it’s nest of constitional lawyers to support the case at SCOTUS from 2 years ago.....silence until the last minute. The NRA only cares when the NSSF tells it too!!!

I am in the global arms and munitions business and I can tell you the NRA will throw anyone under the bus that is not a voting member of SAMMI. Take it for what it is worth, benefit from what the NRA does, but do not for a second think the NRA really cares about you the citizen or the US Constitutions 2nd Amendment as it is written. Think lobbiest for the SAAMMI members. I hope this helps explain why Wayne supports Dingy Harry
