“Don’t you FYROM me!” The official name of the country is Republic of Macedonia, NOT FYROM, as the Greeks would like it to be. The Greeks are a very powerful influence on world policy. And of course, the article you posted is by someone named Stella Jatras, an obviously Greek name. The region in Greece that they refer to as Macedonia WAS originally Macedonian territory. The Macedonian civilization was in existence for centuries before Greece/Hellas ever came into being. If Greeks object to names being reused for other places, maybe we should rename all of the cities named “Athens” all over the world too!
