Conservative commentators, leaders and thinkers have a responsibility to denounce idiocy put forward under the conservative banner. Republicans and conservatives have a real opportunity to take back the country in 2010 and 2012. But they aren’t going to do it by promoting outlandish conspiracies.

As for it influencing how people vote, do you remember how during the last Presidential election all the people who were going to vote for Obama changed their vote because of the nutjobs running around spouting “Bush is Hitler” which caused McCain to win in a landslide?

I do not think that is outlandish at all. The very simplicity of refuting this stuff with physical evidence and the fact that it has not been done is what is outlandish, particularly when you are talking about constitutional qualification for the presidency.
I have a paper, original birth certificate and a pass port that I can produce within a few minutes at home.
I have not spent a million dollars and more trying to cover them up, hide them, or avoid the neccessity.
Yet, Obama has. Why?
I simply want to see the thing (and not a cheezy wen electronic version...or talk that others have seen them). Just step out on stage and show the thing publically and have people who are indepenedent experts examine it for a few minutes.

I have my fingers crossed for success in 2010. At the very least we need to break up that filibuster proof Dem Senate.
There is one main issue with the "Birthers," and it is not a "conspiracy." It involves ONE person who REFUSES to release the document that tells the "citizenship" of BOTH of his parents and the HOSPITAL he was born in. That document is available for TEN US DOLLARS from the state of Hawaii. This IS NOT A CONSPIRACY! It is ONE ARROGANT person sitting in our White house determining he is above the constitution. The conspiracy theory is only fueled by the ever present ignorant presstitutes that take the focus off of where it belongs. For all those clueless ones out there, the blame is not on "birthers" but on one person named Barack Obama. He has only himself to blame for this "out of control" situation. Produce the original birth certificate!

I’m a leader and a thinker, or so I’ve been told, and I’m also an army veteran.
If I were to be up for a promotion and the S1 lost required information like PT test scores (actually common for me in my unit) then it is my responsibility to provide those papers. Otherwise, I would not be promoted.
Now Obama wants to be promoted to the highest position in the military and he is refusing to show the paperwork proving his eligibility?
So then does that mean that the author of the posted article is of the opinion that accountability DECREASES as power/responsibility increases? That is, should a private be held to stricter code of conduct than a sergeant or a lieutenant or a general?
I think such a mindset is ass-backwards... but given how popular it is, especially in politics, I am unsurprised that this arrogance-breeding-attitude results in such arrogance.
Please explain why it is irrational for U.S. citizens who are concerned that the foundation of U.S. law, the Constitution, is being violated? Anyone who has taken the oath required of military members or similar should be extremely concerned. You know, that oath that goes:
“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
If the person filling the role of the president is doing so fraudulently, per the Constitution, are you relieved of your obligation? If you have doubts, aren’t you obligated to ensure the person giving orders as president can lawfully do so?
Is it rational to lie to yourself?
