Global Warming (context on Palin, Sanford and Jindal)
Conservatives4Palin ^ | April 15, 2009 | Joseph Russo

People, please. Get a grip here. Palin, in her testimony yesterday, was clearing stating that it is essential for the United States to develop domestic sources of energy. She never says that global warming is man-made. She recognizes that changes are occurring in the environment, but she never says that man is to blame. She also pushed for more oil exploration. Palin is the governor of Alaska, Alaska depends on energy exports for their economic growth. Therefore, Palin is looking out for the needs of Alaskans... which is what she has always done and will continue to do. This is as far as she is willing to go:

Palin acknowledged that “many believe” a global effort to reduce greenhouse gases is needed.

All of her comments following that statement are in line with the beliefs of the person she is addressing, which is Obama Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.

And even if these so called "supporters" of Palin want to go down that road and throw Palin under the bus, here is what other GOP figures have had to say on the subject: (H/T Robert_Paulson)

Mark Sanford:

For the past 20 years, I have seen the ever-so-gradual effects of rising sea levels at our farm on the South Carolina coast. I’ve had to watch once-thriving pine trees die in that fragile zone between uplands and salt marshes. I know the climate change debate isn’t over, but I believe human activity is having a measurable effect on the environment.

Bobby Jindal:

“I think [we should] let the best science decide,” Jindal said when asked his opinion on the global warming debate. “It’s pretty clear to me that the land is sinking, the water’s rising, and that means that we better act today.”

Mitt Romney:

Is global warming an issue for the world? Absolutely. Is it something we can deal with by becoming energy independent and energy secure? We sure can. But at the same time we call it global warming, not America warming. So let’s not put a burden on us alone and have the rest of the world skate by without having to participate in this effort. It’s a global effort, but our independence is something we can do unilaterally.

At the same time over the past 2 million years we've had 20 major glacial advances which have had devastating consequences ~ if not for human beings (who appear to owe their existence to the ensuing climate changes) then for everything else.

We are at the tipping point where the climate shifts and we slide down into another 90,000 year period of extensive glaciation.

The data is clear. The science is settled. The ice is coming AND it's overdue!

We really do need to make plans for what will happen when we quit holding back the ice.

When it comes to Sarah Palin, ping me all you want.

The sooner she becomes our President, the better.

I think it is foolish to claim that climate change does not occur. History clearly shows that statement false. The argument is who or what is to blame. And can man do anything other than adapt to these changes?

Its the blame mankind side of the equation that we must fight. They are the ones that want to tax us into the dark ages. The liberals want us to live like the Bushmen of the Kalahari while they drive escalades and fly in their citations to receive bogus awards and compliment each other on how much they care.

They are the enemy of freedom.

I don't think Sarah Palin agrees with you. Yesterday she said:

Some would have you delay exploration and development in the federal offshore of Alaska over concerns related to global warming and its effects in the Arctic. First of all let me make it clear that the State of Alaska understands the effects of climate change in the cryosphere. We Alaskans are living with the changes that you are observing in Washington. The dramatic decreases in the extent of summer sea ice, increased coastal erosion, melting of permafrost, decrease in alpine glaciers and overall ecosystem changes are very real to us.

The sooner she becomes our President, the better.

Amen.

FUI SolidWood, on Aug. 29, 2008, the day of her selection as VP candidate, she was interviewed by Newsmax:

What is your take on global warming and how is it affecting our country?

A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.

Link

I thought her remarks yesterday -- in the context of the leader of an energy-rich state talking to a bunch of environmental nutcases that have the power to send Alaska back to the poorhouse and hurt this country immensely in the process -- were brilliant.

The point is not really whether climate change is happening or who is responsible, the main objective is to encourage conservative solutions to secure our energy independence. Most of our leading politicians are on the same page.

Palin spoke about feeling allegiance with former presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. “He said all the right things about resource development in Alaska,” she said.

Governor Mitt Romney on the Current Environmental Debate Friday, Feb 23, 2007:

Boston, MA – Today, Governor Mitt Romney issued the following statement on the current environmental debate:

"Unfortunately, some in the Republican Party are embracing the radical environmental ideas of the liberal left. As governor, I found that thoughtful environmentalism need not be anti-growth and anti-jobs. But Kyoto-style sweeping mandates, imposed unilaterally in the United States, would kill jobs, depress growth and shift manufacturing to the dirtiest developing nations."

"Republicans should never abandon pro-growth conservative principles in an effort to embrace the ideas of Al Gore. Instead of sweeping mandates, we must use America's power of innovation to develop alternative sources of energy and new technologies that use energy more efficiently."

Governor Romney opposed mandatory, Kyoto-like “global warming” regulations in Massachusetts, opting instead for voluntary, pro-growth measures to increase energy efficiency of businesses, reduce carbon emissions and improve the environment.

"We must become independent from foreign sources of oil. This will mean a combination of efforts related to conservation and efficiency measures, developing alternative sources of energy like biodiesel, ethanol, nuclear, and coal gasification, and finding more domestic sources of oil such as in ANWR or the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS)."

Add me to that ping list if you would.

I was truly disgusted with the Freeper "lites" who obviously only read yesterday's AP's misleading headlines and gobbled it up like Easter leftovers "oooh, look, a ham sandwich...eat or read..um, don't want it to go to waste, I'll read the article after I eat, and meanwhile I can comment!"

I got a real big kick outta the 1 month newbie who took all that time to find and post a broken heart, but couldn't take a few minutes for due diligence. He'd probably be the 1st to say that newspapers and other journalists that hide behind a wall of anonymity never ever make things up, just like congressmen.

Sometimes you can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a poser or two.

Thanks for posting this. I was going to post this story just now, but found you had beaten me to it. This whole bunch of screaming about how Palin has abandoned us on global warming is like those who screamed about her Supreme Court pick. They don’t think, they just react. They really need to get a grip.

C4P is the best site to check out what is really going on. I just hope that the people there can keep this up for the next 3.5 years or longer without burning out or moving on to something else. They’re great, and the deserve all our support.

That was year before last. More recently Alaska's glaciers actually grew and advanced ~ first time in 250 years!

Sarah is also aware of that.

Did you know climate fluctuates; it snows; it rains; stuff happens.

BTW, my statement that you are saying Sarah might not agree with concerns the last 2 million years. It is irrefutable that 20 times the ice has come, and 20 times it's gone.

The current schedule of events calls for the ice returning in the near future.

Now, why would Sarah DISAGREE with that?

No, that was yesterday, April 14th, 2009.

Yes, and I have a hard time believing it was 250 years since the last time Alaska's glaciers grew. When I lived in Alaska different glaciers grew and and others receeded in the same years.

It was apparantly ALL the glaciers into the “growing” business.

".....decreases in the extent of summer sea ice.... ~ the killer year was summer of 2007. Summer of 2008 was second greatest, ergo, there was a decline in the decrease of the extent, ergo an increase (even if for one year) in the extent of summer sea ice.

Summer of 2009 hasn't happened yet, so the reference is 2008, and the year before that.
