If We Can Turn Bacteria Into Fuel (And Someone Just Did), What Else is Possible?

American energy independence may be closer than anyone realizes, and one of the most promising sources is neither wind nor solar nor oil nor coal nor even nuclear – as useful as all of the above may be in their own right.

It is biomass, especially bacteria – genetically manipulated to produce hydrocarbon fuels like gasoline and diesel. I wrote about this in May 2008, and in the eight months since then the people involved have made so much progress that a major announcement is scheduled for next week in Washington D.C.

My prior column explained the efforts of Tifton, Georgia-based Bell BioEnergy to develop hydrocarbon fuel from biomass materials, especially bacteria. The idea was to convert biomass in the same way that termites do when they digest their food. Owner J.C. Bell told me he was working on the technology that could use this process to produce even sophisticated fuels like gasoline and diesel.

the possibilities are endless... the question is: are we ready for such knowledge?

Remember the little cartoon where a mouse is eaten by a cat and the cat is eaten by the dog and the whole process goes right up the ladder to a dragon.......but the dragon breaks out in pink spots.

Yeah...it all goes down to DNA and the simplest DNA is a virus followed by a bacteria.

Some people have a theory that the oil we have now is really the waste product of bacteria. The idea that all the oil is just rotten dinasours doesn’t make alot of sense, when you find oil 2 miles deep...and strangely it is most plentiful in extreme north climates like ANWAR.

These people may be on to something.

Unfortunately liberals have been so brainwashed into thinking oil and gas are eeevil (and America’s using “too much” of it is even more eeevil and selfish) they will probably demand that all the world’s oil be turned back into bacteria which then be declared an endangered species on protected preserves

I have been writing on this for 6 months, it’s about time someone took notice! Better late than never!

A 5 reactor test plant goes on line this week in Goergia and a second test plant is being delevered this week.

I got this last week:

Good speaking with you today. Appreciate your interest and support.

I just realized that I had not answered your questions from this previous email.

1. When you mentioned yesterday 1 ton of feed stock would yield about 2+ barrels of product. Is the feed stock fresh, with water weight or dry.

Yes, early biomass studies done by the USDA indicate that it is feasible to yield 2 to 2 ½ barrels (84 – 126 gallons) of gas or liquid hydrocarbon biofuel from 1 ton of biomass. This is dry biomass feedstock; the energy yield (in BTU’s) is higher.

2. Am I right, your process does not require ethanol to produce your hydrocarbon chains?

At no point in our process is ethanol used nor made. This would occur by the highly energy-requiring fermentation route. Besides, ethanol is an alcohol and not a strict hydrocarbon.

Take a look at the documents attached. Let me know if you have any further questions and look forward to hearing from you again.

This could be a trend. M.D.s leaving medicine and bringing their intelligence and problem solving skills to other endeavors.

This would be a wonderful trend. The bulk of medicine doesn't need minds like this. It can be handled by highly trained technicians supported by algorithmic regimens and expert systems, supervised by MDs.

Free up the great minds to create great NEW things.

Does this qualify for your ping list?

I’m pretty sure it qualifies for the renewable energy ping list for uncledave.

“Unfortunately liberals have been so brainwashed....”

Far too kind to your liberal co-citizens. with libs...its all about power.

Historically governments have used famines to extort concessions from citizens/peasants. The modern world would’nt tolerate a food famine like the Sub-Sahara is routinely subjected too by the thugs ruling there.

However, Al Gore might be able to create and sell a gullible lst world population , an energy famine.

The technology exists to convert garbage into oil.

Garbage Into Oil

The average American produces almost 5 pounds of trash every day. this amounts to 195 million tons a year for the whole country. While some items get recycled, most of what is discarded ends up in landfills. To lessen your impact on the Earth, you should start by cutting down on how garbage you produce each day.

This is pretty cool. What will kill it though, is the lieberals will still say we are producing fuel that will harm the atmosphere, so it is worthless. Dummies.

Well, if that is possible then "they" can turn bull$hit into gold...which means that all politicians and most teachers will have a legitimate shot at getting on the Forbes 400.
