INTERNET TERROR FROM HOUSTON BY WAY OF SAPULPA OK?

And Watch Out for a whole New Meaning to Identity Theft!
Your Name May Be Listed as Hosting an Internet Terror Site Without You Ever Knowing It

 Jeremy Reynalds, March 5, 2005

A few months ago I conducted a small one-man sting investigation hoping to find the individuals apparently formerly behind a mysterious and elusive free Internet service provider –  that at one time was hosting as many as 15 to 20 al Qaeda affiliated and other well known terror sites.

Hosting Anime (formerly hosted by the Houston-based Everyone's Internet), which no longer hosts terrorist sites, was the name of the Internet service provider. Several of the sites it hosted quickly gained notoriety for either showing or providing links to videos of the numerous beheadings that occurred in Iraq.

Although I didn't locate the owners exact location, I  believe I could have narrowed their whereabouts to Sapulpa, OK and learned some shocking information along the way. Granted, nothing is necessarily as it seems on the Internet so I will let you decide on the merits of this story for yourself.

HOSTING ANIME THEN

Late last year when the old terror loving Hosting Anime was about to close down, I learned that an individual using the name HA Dark 2 (HA) was reportedly the former majority owner of the old Hosting Anime.

Wanting to see if I could learn more about who was behind Hosting Anime, for a number of nights I posed as an al Qaeda operative and using an assumed name, contacted HA. I told him that "the brothers" were very sad to see the sites go down and we wanted to help him get back in business.

HA told me that Hosting Anime ran into money problems and that $25,000 (offered by me) would definitely help ... "$1 would help really. But this time twoeyes (presumably his partner) and I could cut the other partners out to make things run better."

However he continued, "Even if I did start a hosting company, Jeremy would just cause trouble." He added that I had caused "them" a lot of trouble, but not him personally.

"The whole (Hosting Anime) team ... He wanted to find us and dig up dirt on us," HA said.

HA asked me (as the al Qaida operative) that if he was to accept the money, what we would require of him. I told him that he would be required to host all future beheading videos on line and use American freedom of speech against any law enforcement attempts to curtail the site.

HA said that while hosting the videos would be easy, I would be the problem."(Jeremy) will work his (expletive) off, trying to shut us down."

I then asked HA if he was a follower of Allah. His answer was interesting. He responded, "I am not very religious, but what you are doing is better than what Bush is doing," HA responded. "Over here in America Muslims get treated bad, people kind of turn their back on them. No one over here practices. There (sic)  is no people to teach about Allah in my area."

I told HA to contact me once he had a fake bank account we could wire the money to. He said, "I will have to find out how to get fake id.  I will call my friend tomorrow and see about going to a bank and looking for a address I can use."

A couple of days later we communicated again and I asked HA if he had received my e- mail. He said (sic), "Working out details with friend over id, but even if everything was taken care of.... we would almost get shutdown by Jeremy. He will cause too much trouble ... Before we go any further, it would be wise to talk with him. He is the only thing holding us back really."

The next night I logged back on and told HA that "little kaffir" (heathen) Jeremy was no problem – that a monetary gift given to his homeless shelter had changed his mind about trying to get Internet terror sites closed down.

HA told me (sic), "things setup with guy to get id Monday/Tuesday. It (is)  hard to get good fake id. He should be able to help me."

I told HA that "the brothers" were very pleased how he had covered his identity in registering Hosting Anime and hoped he could do the same thing for the new web host we were considering. I asked him if he could make the site appear to be registered in Seattle, or another false location.

HA told me he could cover everything. I told him (sic), "maybe you point site to little Jeremy junction and the amerikkan fbi get after him!"

     "I might," HA responded.

HA said the new site would have a new domain; in fact, everything would be new.

HA said the availability of the new bank account would depend on the effectiveness of the new false ID. HA said he told his friend the ID needed to work in a bank but that if the friend he was working with failed to come through, "I know a few other people that might help. (It) might take a full week before we are ready to go. Once I get that done, I can have the site/server up in a day or two and look legit."

HA reminded me concerning the transfer of funds that anything in excess of $10 thousand is reported to the government.

I told HA to e- mail me as soon as he had the ID and the bank account and thanked him for his help.

I added to HA, "Thank you brother for your help. Maybe we meet in Saudi Arabia one day when we can really reward you in way you deserve. The 70 virgins are not a joke. We love Allah but we love good women too."

A couple of days passed before I communicated with HA again. He wrote, "I cannot get on (instant messenger) today, very bad connection here. We talk tomorrow then. Bye friend."

When we next communicated, I told HA that I had very good news for him, that $100,000 was on the way to him as soon as he had the bank account up and running. There was also the possibility of much more.

HA told me he was working on his test site. I asked him where it was, "as the brothers are very excited and keen to see."

The test site, HA told me, was located at http://zomerdijk.net/frank/index.php which he described as "just a testing area of mine. Once the bugs gone, I got big plans."

HA then worried that the individual whom he said had been working on his false ID was not legitimate as the ID had yet to appear. When I pressed HA about the importance of the ID, he said, "You know anyone who can help me maybe? Around Sapulpa?"

As an apparent afterthought HA added, "Let me know if (there is) another way to get us money besides bank"

I told HA that I was not familiar with Sapulpa and asked him for the nearest big American city. He said that Sapulpa is a small place in Oklahoma. HA then said that he had to go, as it was almost 11pm and he had school tomorrow.

HA's comment about Sapulpa being small was right.  I found that the 2001 approximate population of Sapulpa was 19,166 and the approximate number of families in 1990 was 7,614. Sapulpa's land area is 18 square miles.

The next evening HA again asked me if I had an alternative way beside the bank to get him funds.

"You have fake CC's (credit cards?) ... (We) just need a way to pay for servers," he said. You not know anyone in (sic) usa who can do this? Or anyone in UK? ... we only need to worry about server. If someone else could pay, or something, we would be good to go."

HA said he thought he would be unable to set up an account with a bank.

"People where I am from get homeless to buy alchohol, some not check id," HA said. "If  you can find someone to pay for the server, I can take care of the rest."

I told HA that while I thought we could do that without a lot of problem, covering our tracks would be the problem.

"Covering tracks is hard, yes," HA said. "EV1 is very good.  EV1 will want someone's name."

I suggested we use Mike Smith, a name used for some of the false Hosting Anime registrations.

HA said, "Might be a good idea to use another name, it's all good."

HA came back a few minutes later with a name in which to register this as yet- to- be- named site.

"OK, got an identity. Mercer, Marie Emore ... (He gave her address and telephone number).  Proxy for her area is 128.220.247.28:3128 ... When you use it, it looks like you are from her city. Could say she has a son, who goes to school at the John Hopkins University. IP is registered to that university, and we could say the person's name/address I gave you is his mom."

HA added, "Talk to brothers about signing up. If need be I can create more identities all over."

As the subterfuge continued, HA seemed to become a little impatient and wanted to hurry up the process.  I told him  that while the brothers were willing not to use a bank, they wanted him to name a place where the funds could be dropped off.

I told him (sic), "A litter bin (trash can) would be good. You name the place so you confident of our intentions. We want to give you money because you do work for us. It is the Islamic way."

He responded, "You don't need to pay, just get server. People find me that way. Someone find me at university. It's not secure. I make money other ways. No need (to) worry about me.""

I asked HA if people at his university would hurt him. He said they would not, but there was no way to secure his identity. There were too many "unknowns."

However, HA added, "Once we setup with everything, maybe then."

HA then asked me if I wanted to know what server to buy from Everyone's Internet. He said he wanted, "Linux Red Hat Enterprise $189 Available Order.  [10:41 PM]:  Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz Packages. I GB RAM - (2) 80GB Hard Drives. 1400 GB Monthly Transfer. That one."

To make sure I understood, HA wrote that I should go on line to  "ev1servers.net/english/pentium4_series.asp. Click order next to server."

The next night, HA said he had thought of a domain name for our proposed new web site.

"Tell me what you think of this: www.victimhost.com. Slogan: Don't let your current host make a victim out of you, host with us NOW! Just one idea. It's a pretty good name. If you like I say we go for it. You can buy domain through EV1 also. Might want to do that. Then just forward me login information. I can download a template and have everything setup."

HA continued. He said, "I can't wait to work on the server."

I responded, "It will be very good. Hosting Anime was good but this will give glory to Allah greatly and let the world know about the great works of Allah. You have great rewards you are working toward."

HA answered, "Working on the server is enough for me."

QUESTIONS REMAIN

With my limited resources that was as far as I got but I certainly learned a few things.  HA's apparent ability to literally pull a name out of a hat and place the person as the registrant behind sites that would be hosting beheadings and other acts of terror was shocking. It gives an entirely new and different meaning to the term "identity theft."

And the big question remains. While the old terror loving Hosting Anime is gone, sites hosted by Hosting Anime –  as was –  were the highly visible public faces for the world's terror masterminds for a number of months last year.

Were the apparent young owners of the site keeping it on line at the request of the federal government? Was the Internet Service Provider (ev1.net) from whom the old owners of Hosting Anime were renting computer space working with the government? Where are the computer logs that would show who was accessing all of these accounts for so many months last year? Why the trail of false registration information?

While the site in its old form is no longer with us, many issues remain and the American public deserves an explanation if the federal government was in any way involved.

But in case you're new to this controversy, here is the history of Hosting Anime that along with others I was able to piece together last year over a number of months.

HOSTING ANIME: THE HISTORY

This is an article I wrote last year shortly after Hosting Anime was sold.

Hosting Anime's new unwillingness to host terror sites occurred quickly after the ownership changes at Hosting Anime.

A posting by former company administrator "Darkfiles" on a Hosting Anime forum read in part (sic), "I am have informed by our other partners that hostinganime.com has been sold new and better owner who I am sure will continue uphold hostinganime even better than the old owners."

The message was signed by Wang Chi, Kevin/Brian Burdocks and Ryan Petterson

For many months, terror site trackers dogged the administrators of Hosting Anime both on public forums and personal messages to encourage them to clean up their act.
Another Picture from an Old Hosting Anime Terror Site

Questions to Hosting Anime were answered either by "HA-twoeyes" or "HA- Darkfiles." A private message sent by me through the Hosting Anime forum to "twoeyes" asking if he lived overseas was answered in part like this, "I believe you are confused about me, I do not live overseas ...  Perhaps you are thinking of Kevin? I am unsure."

Another e-mail to "twoeyes" asking whether Kevin was Darkfiles was answered with this comment. "No, ‘Darkfiles' is not Kevin. We mask who Kevin is so we can lead you in circles. and laugh at you."

All of the contact information for Hosting Anime was false. It ranged from a mail drop in Westchester, Ca., to false addresses and telephone numbers in Seattle. In many cases, the name Mike Smith was used.

However, while "Mike Smith" was impossible to track, "HA-two eyes" posted contact information on a number of technical bulletin boards.

At one Internet location, "Two Eyes" provided his e- mail addresses as twoeyes@fusionphp.net,  mazzarito12@hotmail.com and on Instant Messenger at amazing2eyedman. His home page was listed as http://fusionphp.net

In addition, the somewhat acerbic personality of "twoeyes" and the mellower character of "Darkfiles" attracted comments on Internet bulletin boards (www.php-net.net/topic.php?p=10170) such as (sic) "Some of you might know them ("Darkfiles" and "theamazingTWOeyedman") from dbznetwork or hostinganime, and anyways vote for the best person personality wise/the person you think is nicer and explain why."

An Instant Message I sent to the self-described "Amazing Two Eyed Man" was revealing. He first responded by saying, "Why are you stalking me?"

Within a few hours of this Instant Message, a message appeared on the former Hosting Anime forums saying the service had been sold.

According to a posting (http://forum.uzipp.com/index.php?showuser=438) on another forum from "The Amazing Two Eyed Man," he is also known as Matt A. and is part of the support team for uzipp.com.

Bristol, CT based David Zipp of uzipp.com said he was a little familiar on line with "The Amazing Two Eyed Man" and had communicated with him by Instant Messenger. He said that "two eyes" had asked to help out on a volunteer basis.

Zipp said he believed the individual was young. "I remember asking on line how old he was. If he was going to be helping out, that would be a helpful thing to know."

Zipp said that "twoeyes" had also asked him about his company, how it was running and whether there would be a possibility of buying it. At no point, though, Zipp said, was Hosting Anime or its terror connections mentioned.

WHO ARE MIKE SMITH AND MATT KEWLIES?

In Aug. 2003,  Hosting Anime's was registered to a Mike Smith from Seattle. All of the information was false.

A number of other sites were also registered to Smith. They included  www.Anime200.com, www.BadAssgamers.com, and www.Giguphosting.com. Hosting Anime's current owner said he has never heard of those sites.

Another Smith registered web site, www.vzeu.com, redirects to one called www.mysmallurl.com.While www.mysmallurl.com registers to Smith, checking on the registration information for www.vzeu.com takes readers back to www.mysmallurl.com, this time with different registration information.

That site is hosted by a "Matt Kewlies," who gives the same contact e- mail address, mazzarito12@hotmail.com, as "twoeyes."

He also gives a phony address of 2412 Super Court, Yahooville, Ca. 22401.

Also registered to Kewlies is www.animanga.vzeu.com and www.sean.vzeu.com. "Sean's Page," which provides a link to Britain's Liverpool Daily Post and the Liverpool football team web site, gives a non working e-mail address for Sean (annfinnan@eircom.net). It also gives a link to a page hosted by Hosting Anime (www.hostinganime.com/david/donate.html) where readers are invited to send money to "Sean."

The name and address provided for sending donations to "Sean" is David Bannon, Meeltenagh, Edgeworthstown, County Longford, Ireland.

An individual reached at the Seattle telephone number listed as a contact for Mike Smith told me she had never heard of him and didn't know why her phone number was listed. She confirmed that the address given was for her son's residence, who she said was out of the country.

As to why her telephone number and address had been singled out she said, "I suppose they have to pick on somebody."

I think the comment made by HA in the first part of this article makes that quite clear.

In July 2004  a special agent in the Phoenix FBI office told me his agency's investigations had led him to conclude Hosting Anime site operators are not involved in the beheadings in any way and that the agency is looking toward the Middle East.

When asked why the owners of Hosting Anime were repeatedly going out of their way to provide a cluttered trail of false contact information, the agent refused to answer.

He said  that he really couldn't say anything other than that this writer was going down the wrong trail by looking for additional information about the web site operators.

The agent added ominously, "You could end up helping people you don't want to help. You may already have." He refused to clarify what he meant by the statement.

HOSTING ANIME NOW

Hosting Anime was sold a few months ago and the terror sites that were at one time using its services were quickly pulled by the new owners.

One remaining terror site that I found on the Hosting Anime servers was quickly pulled by the company's new owner after I alerted him of its presence.

An e-mail to the new owner concerning his position on Internet terror was answered like this. "We, the current owners of HostingAnime.com, do not condone such materials and will do everything in our power to remove content as atrocious as this in the future. Everyone has a right to free _expression, but it should not come at the cost of basic human dignity, which is what distributing material like this would take from all of us."

Going to the Hosting Anime location formerly occupied by many terror sites now brings up a message reading "This account has been suspended for TOS violations. Hosting Anime is under new management and we will not be as tolerant of questionable content as in the past.
If you find (sic) objectional content on our servers, please post in our forums."

Although I get lost in the jargon, Johnathan, I know enough to know this is big and it's serious.

Thank God for terrorist hunter, Jeremy Reynalds!

In the town of sapulpa you could easily ask somebody who knows enough about computers to do something like this and they would probably be able to tell you. this information should be reported to the police or to a private investigator since the police are horrible at doing anything at all.

And if you find somebody in Sapulapa who knows a lot about computers, you may have found him. Indications are that we've got an Islamist sympathetic to terrorism -- who also can set up fake IDs and use identity theft. He probably knows more about computers than anyone else in Sapulapa, OK.

"Only about 19,000 people there so I suspect you're right."

Unfortunately, Sapulpa OK is a part of the Tulsa Metro area. They literally butt up against one another.
