MELANIE Griffith made headlines in 2000 when she vowed to smoke pot with her son, Alexander, if he wanted to try it. And just two years later, she is ruing her decision.

"I said that if my son wanted to smoke pot, I would smoke it with him," Griffith told More magazine about Alexander, 17, her son by Steven Bauer. "I did - and it backfired. He liked it. Now he

Talk about a bad decison. Just proves that some of these Hollywood people should not allowed to be parents. Perhaps Hillary can help out!!!!!

"My thinking was that it would be better for him to do it at home than to go out in the street and get something that would kill him. I thought it was a good idea, but ultimately, it wasn’t."

Liberal think. Nothing is evil, everybody does it, just do it safe. The truth is there is evil, everyone doesn't do it, and it can't be made safe.

In 1998, she proved Newman wrong and earned an Oscar nomination for "Working Girl."

1998? 1988 maybe.

"I did - and it backfired. He liked it. Now he’s on the [12-step] program."

Twelve Steps for what? "Everyone knows" that pot is NOT addictive and doesn't affect your life negatively in any way. Just ask the maggot-ridden dopers that infest FR.

My son is ten years old and I am worried about what I will do the first time I catch him high or drunk.
One thing is for sure I wont be smoking or drinking with him. He is not gonna be treated with kid gloves.
But I do wonder about the best approach.
While Melanie made the wrong decision at least she has spoken up and admitted it. I give her credit for that. I have known a few people much brighter then her who have taken the same approach, yet never will admit they screwed up.

In 1974, she starred in "Night Moves" with Paul Newman, who told her: "You have to study! You have to learn! You cannot act!" In 1998, she proved Newman wrong and earned an Oscar nomination for "Working Girl."

She didn't prove Newman wrong, he's right, she's a wretched actress and as everyone knows, Oscar nominations say little about the talent of the nominee. Nominations are advertised for by the nominee and his/her press agents, they are bought and sold.

"Because I’ve grown up in Hollywood, because I’ve had a lot of fame, because I’ve been through drugs and alcohol, because I’ve been married three times and have three different children by three different men, because I’ve been naked in films - people think I’m stupid or flighty or air-headed . . .

The people have got it right, Melanie.

One of my friends thought this was a good idea too...she figured it was better to smoke dope along with her kid in the house then for him to "sneak" a smoke at a friend's and then try to drive home. Kid (young man ?? he's 19) has now lost his driver's license for 18 months (reckless driving/DUI), has a 15 year-old pregnant girlfriend, calls his mom the "B" word and tells her to "F" off...but at least they have an "honest" relationship (grrrrr)

Nobody has said it's not addictive. It can be psychologically addictive, as many other things are. Ever heard of Overeaters Anonymous?

Interestingly enough, the biggest pot smoker in our school got a full scholarship to LSU and made nearly a perfect score on his ACT and SAT.

The movie Working Girl was in 1988--also starring Harrison Ford, Sigorney Weaver, Alec "The Bloviator" Baldwin, and Kevin Spacey.

Well, I think she made a terrible decison, but I liked her voice as the bird in Sturart Little II.

My son is ten years old and I am worried about what I will do the first time I catch him high or drunk.

I'll tell you what my father did the first time I had a hangover (at 14, cadged almost an entire bottle of Southern Comfort at one of my brother's parties). He used a bucket of water - cold water - to wake me up at 6 AM. Then, I had to clean up that mess. Then I had to clean up the mess I'd made on the bathroom floor the night before. Then I had to clean myself up and go to school. THEN, when I got home, I had to pull every weed by hand in our back yard. And, the cherry on top was that I was grounded for a month; no sports, no going to the mall, no visits from friends, no TV. I was even banned from the workshop at home (where I usually spent most of my free hours).

I'll likely do the same thing if I ever have kids.

That reminds me of a female friend who is a single mom. Her daughter is 8. She was helping me out the summer before last by watching my son while school was out.
Her daughter was spoiled , she would only eat certain foods,
she chewed with her mouth open, she whined about everything. I have seen this with many single moms with one kid.
When we had dinner, I tell my son to chew with his mouth closed, I correct his speech, I make him eat his veggies, etc, etc. I might be a little too strict at times but she is the opposite.
Anyway, I told her that her and her daughter were a bad influence and I no longer needed her to babysit.
She came unglued and said that my son would grow up hating me and that her daughter would love her because she is her best friend. She said she will correct her manners and eating habits when she is older.
I tried to explain to her that she is not doing her child any favors and that I do not want to be my sons best friend. I want to set a example for him and make manners a habit that will stay with him for the rest of his life.
I could not sit at the same table with a child who has food falling out of her mouth, talks back, will only eat junk food, whom you have to make a special dinner for, etc, etc.
This 40 year old mom lives with her parents, is lazy, will probaly smoke her daughters first joint with her and drink with her all in the name of being her best friend, so she will come to her with her problems later in life.
