Falcon 9 launches Dragon with heavy science payload

SANTA FE, N.M. — A SpaceX Falcon launched a Dragon cargo ship from Complex 39A, Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 12:31 p.m. Eastern Aug. 14 with a pristine payload of physics, chemical and biological research, for the International Space Station. The mission designated SpX-12, will arrive on station early on Aug. 16. The Dragon is carrying 3 ton of cargo for the station, of which nearly 75 percent is science and U S Army, Kestrel Eye.

Falcon’s spit on a glass door knob smooth lift, delivery, and reusable stage, engine powered, percussion return, spot on, both land and pitch sea plats is truly impressive.

Watched the launch from my front yard.
Yes, while truly impressive, it was like a toy compared to the Shuttle launches.
Also went to the Space Center a while back and they get you in to a theater for a short film then open the screen and there before you to marvel at and check out is the Shuttle
Atlantis. Truely Amazing.

My son and I visited the Space Center on his birthday, which happens to be Jan 1st. So we got to see the Atlantis, along with the Space Center’s secular holiday show.

We’re planning another Orlando trip in January (but after his birthday). Of course we will see the Space Center again.

The Falcon 9 engine launch vehicle alone is an apples and oranges comparison with the shuttle launch system. Add the two extra Falcon first stages in a strap on configuration for something comparable on configuration.
