Sacramento Auschwitz survivor goes viral with sharp words at immigration forum

Bernard Marks, 87, will talk about the Holocaust with anyone who will listen.

The world was listening this week after the Auschwitz survivor stood at a Sacramento immigration forum Tuesday and compared the Trump administration’s hardline stance on refugees and undocumented immigrants to Nazi Germany.

“History is not on your side,” Marks told Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones, who hosted the forum featuring Thomas Homan,, acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Marks came to the United States after spending more than five years in Nazi concentration camps as a child during World War II.

Yes, I agree that the Catholics, like the Jews, suffer from bias. Observant Catholics are taught to love the Jews in word and deed. I don’t think the Gentiles at large have that love. I watched a fascinating documentary about it a couple years ago.

Germany treated Jews as second-class citizens, even though they acquired German citizenship were (for the most part) native-born Germans (including highly decorated veterans of WW I) who had been living in the country for generations, and were (for the most part) indistinguishable from "regular" Germans - except, perhaps, for their religious practices.

Older people are more prone to disease and politics also tends to trigger people in some form of derangement. You witness that on FR all the time. For example, they lose control, become overly emotional, and start posting in capital letters. It would be interesting if one's age was posted with the comments so that the more elderly among us could be ignored when they so obviously are suffering from a disease. Generally, we should forgive the elderly when they are suffering from a disease and pray that no one be punished on our account for their sins.
